HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS (1 of 1)

EXCITING PROGRESS: JUNIOR SCHOOL

By Peter Cliffe (Principal)

A tour of the Junior school refurbishment on the first day back from holidays allowed our primary staff to see the remarkable progress of the construction firsthand. The transformation is truly amazing! In 2024, our Prep, Year 5 and Year 6 classes will find their new home in this new building. Noteworthy features include a new primary staff room, modern offices, well-appointed student facilities, and an inviting undercover prep play area.

PING PONG FUN: YEAR 9 & YEAR 5/6

By Caleb Lobbe (Year 9 Teacher)

During the last 2 periods on the day of ‘The Pong’ fundraiser, it was wonderful to see the Year 5/6 students interacting with the Year 9s, by participating in ping pong related games.

As a year 9 program activity, the Year 9 students were given the task in small groups to prepare ping pong related games sessions for the Year 5 and 6 students to participate in. The year 9s came up with some brilliant ideas, and it was awesome to see the students interact so wonderfully with students younger than them! Throughout  the afternoon, there were up to 30 stations of games run for the students across 3 separate areas of the school. The games ranged from ping pong straw mazes to egg (ping pong ball) and spoon races!

Congratulations to the Year 9s on running a fantastic afternoon of ping pong games for the Year 5/6 students and doing so for a great cause!

"INSPIRE" SECONDARY ART EXHIBITION

By Jacinta Leed (Art Teacher)

Our school's restaurant was recently transformed into a captivating gallery as we hosted the Secondary Art Exhibition with the theme "Inspire." From works such as realistic drawings of eyes, abstract clay masks and wire sculptures to cityscape drawings, character designs and models of tiny homes, the exhibition inspired all who saw it.

A highlight of the night was when people got the opportunity to write an encouragement to a student’s work who inspired them the most. It was definitely hard to pick just one artwork to encourage!

Congratulations to all the students who have put in so much effort into their creative projects this year, your talent and dedication were evident. We look forward to future exhibitions that will continue to showcase the remarkable talents of our students and remind us of the endless possibilities that creativity holds.

STAY LATE NIGHT ADVENTURE

By Carrie Scampton (Prep - Year 2 Coordinator)

On Friday, 6th October, the Prep to Year 2 classes enjoyed their Stay Late Night. The students were excited to stay back at school, join in fun activities, eat pizza and experience school beyond the usual hours. The Year 2 students stayed overnight in their classrooms and had breakfast together Saturday morning.

To begin the event, the students gathered on the Primary Sports Courts for an afternoon snack and chat about the fun ahead. The VCE VM Year 12 students led activities, including dancing, sports games, and arts and crafts. Mrs Nicholas also taught students the Nutbush, and a few Year 8 students assisted with helping P-2 students. Lots of giggles and excited voices could be heard throughout the Primary area as students played, busted energetic dance moves, played Octopus and used their imagination to design pictures.

At 5:15 p.m., we said goodbye to the Preps before enjoying a Pizza and Icy Poles dinner. At 6:30 p.m., the Year 1s went home and the Year 2s prepared their sleeping mattresses and sleeping bags for bedtime, later. With the room organised, the students changed into PJs and settled to watch Finding Nemo.

Usually, students are encouraged to be alert in class and stay awake. Not surprisingly, it was a little tricky to sleep in a classroom away from the usual comforts of home, listening to ‘night owls’ whisper. Eventually, some sleep was had, and before long, it was time to wake up again for breakfast and to pack up. We all enjoyed sitting together outside in 2CS's covered area, eating warm toast, cereal, and fruit. By 8 a.m., the Year 2s were happy to see their parents again and told stories of the night they stayed back at school and 'slept' in their classroom.

Thank you to the P-2 staff for all their efforts in preparing and running the P-2 Stay Late Night, and to the VCE VM students, Year 8 helpers (Phoebe, Charlotte & Liam), numerous parent helpers, and BHCS staff and parents for their support.
