News from Years 7 - 9
Last term, on 7 September, we held our ‘Welcome to Secondary’ Evening in the MECS gym. This was a night for the 2024 Year 7 students and their parents to receive information about the new season which they are about to embark on at MECS Secondary.
Presentations were made by members of the school leadership, faculty leaders, wellbeing team and some of our current Year 7 students. Students and families heard about our ‘deep hope’ for their time here at MECS, our desire that this will be a community where they will find a place to belong, unpack their gifts and be equipped to actively live for God in His world.
During supper, there was an opportunity to meet with other parents, students, teachers and leaderships, while visiting the displays that showcased many of our great programs here at MECS. This was a rich time of community building and fellowship.
To all of the Year 6 students, may your final term in Primary School be filled with wonderful celebrations and joyful reflections as you finish this chapter of your lives. And as you prepare to join Year 7 at MECS, may you look forward to 2024 with great hope and anticipation for this new season and the opportunities it holds for you.

A Day to Remember
The sun was shining and the Year 7s were ready for a memorable day at Maroondah Dam.
Amidst the tranquil backdrop of Maroondah Dam, students not only enjoyed the outdoors and building community but also connected with their surroundings on a deeper level. Students engaged in a Geography field activity for our Water in God’s World unit. They unleashed their artistic talents by sketching the landscapes and showcasing how they are connected.
Adventures took place with a spirited 7km walk through picturesque trails, where laughter and camaraderie were in the air. The sense of achievement was undeniable. The walk not only tested their physical endurance but also provided an opportunity to build relationships. The field activity tapped into their creative flair, fostering an appreciation for the environment. As the sun set on their adventure, tired yet fulfilled smiles were evidence of a day well spent, a day that will undoubtedly be remembered as a part of their Year 7 journey.

Fitness doesn’t have to involve regular visits to the gym. This term, the Year 8 girls have been studying various aspects of Fitness in their Physical Education classes. Learning about the Physical Activity Guidelines for their age, and planning a personal fitness program, has helped them to discover various activities that can contribute to maintaining their fitness. We completed this unit with a trip to Lilydale Skate Centre where the girls were able to experience firsthand how much fun it can be to maintain fitness.
