Term Three Highlights
This was the big idea that directed our wondering and investigations last term. Included in this idea was the biblical threads of building community and loving God. We started the term by asking the children what it means to belong, what it might feel like and look like?
“It means the person owns it, it’s something that belongs to them, it's something that is theirs”
‘If you need something, you wait your turn and do something, so you don’t waste your time. If you don’t get to play with stuff you’re not living”
“We belong to kinder because the teachers teach us stuff. We know we belong because you feel it in your heart”
“It feels beautiful, it feels cosy”
“If someone looks left out, they might not feel belonging. When you don’t belong you feel sad, scared”
“We belong to God when we are kind, and we belong to Jesus”
Over the term the children were invited to explore questions and engage in experiences delve deeper into what it means to belong, to ourselves, family, community and to God. The following are several highlights
A Child of God
Through the year the children are reminded that they are children of God, created in His image and precious in His sight. The children celebrate their similarities and differences with the hope of caring for themselves and each other.
The Grandparents Project and Fathers Night
Intergenerational relationships are so important as our elders possess life experience and wisdom. The children were invited to interview their grandparents and create a poster exploring where their grandparents grew up, what it was like to be five and did they go to kindergarten. Many families expressed what an enjoyable and precious experience this was.
Me on the Map
Our sense of place is an integral part of belonging, where we live, what country we walk on and how we look after it. Each week a child takes home ‘Wilam’ one of our Indigenous dolls to care for. Wilam lives on Wurundjeri land, and her name is the Woi-wurrung word for 'home'. The children are invited to help Wilam find out more about their home e.g, a Woi-wurrung name for a landmark or animal located on the lands they walk on and where their ancestors came from.
How blessed are we to be apart of Gods family, sharing community with MECS families and walking on this beautiful county.
