The Library Shelf
International School Library Month
October is International School Library month! So, let’s take a quick moment to consider what we love about the school library.
One of the primary benefits of the library lies in fostering a love for reading among students, promoting literacy skills that extend far beyond the classroom. By offering a diverse collection of resources including fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, reference materials, eBooks, audiobooks, online resources and magazines, the library caters to the varied interests and learning styles of students. When each Primary class spends time in the library for their weekly sessions, we enjoy looking at all the wonderful new books that are coming in every week. Books will continue to exist in print, but our eBook and audiobook collections are also continually expanding. Graphic novels and manga are increasing in popularity and acceptance. We love it when students recommend new books that we may not have.
School libraries can offer more than just access to books and resources to students that may not be available to them outside of school. It can be a place for children who struggle within a busy school or a safe place for children who may find socialising difficult. It can be a place for enjoying community; a place to enjoy a board game or a card game with friends. It can be a place for quiet study.
Whether it’s a place to read, relax, study, or visit, the library is a place for anyone and everyone.
