Grade 1 and 2

Term 4

We hope everyone has enjoyed the well deserved break and are feeling refreshed ready for a big Term 4. We are excited for the term ahead and have many wonderful things to come.

Literacy

This term we are completing author studies on a range of different and talented authors. We will researching into their lives, the inspiration behind their stories and make connections to their texts. Some of the authors we will be looking at are: Aaron Blabey, Jackie French, Jane Godwin and Mem Fox.

Over the last 2 weeks we have been developing detailed holiday recounts. Students have been working through and concentrating on using punctuation correctly, adjectives and sentence structure. They have been able to draw a comic to go with their writing and finalise a publish piece to complete the process.

Numeracy

Our brains have been working hard through our unit on Fractions. The students are showing a great understanding that a fraction is part of a whole and that they are equal parts. They have been working together to identify halves, thirds, quarters, fifths and eighths.

Grade 2 Sleepover

The countdown is on to our Grade 2 sleepover. With an event like this comes mixed emotions from our young people. We are talking about resilience and perseverance. Please continue to speak with your child about the sleepover and remind them that it is okay to feel worried or anxious about it. The students will be creating their own little sleeping space, we have lots of fun activities planned and a very excited little bunch of grade 2s.

PosiSchools

We are looking forward to commencing our PosiSchools program on Monday. This program provides evidence-based strategies, skills and knowledge that help students navigate life more effectively. The focus for the Grade 1 and 2 students is 'gratitude'. Every day for 21 days we will spend 10 to 20 minutes on the PosiSchools program where we start the morning with a positive frame of mind. Students are encouraged to wear their socks every Friday for the duration of the program. Stay tuned to hear more about this.
