Careers

Is your child looking for an apprenticeship or Traineeship?

At this time of year, employers start reaching out to our school looking for potential employees. The Careers Team have been advertising many positions lately including apprenticeships, traineeships and full time/ part time/ casual employment. You can find these advertised on COMPASS but also on the Senior Secondary Careers TEAMS page that all Year 10 – 12 students have access to. This is a valuable resource and is well worth keeping an eye on if your child is looking for work. You can also check out the GSSC Facebook page – Greater Shepparton Secondary College Careers page which is added to regularly as well.

Wanting to join the Army?

The Australian Army is offering a 2 day placement for those interested in finding out more about the Army. The dates for this placement are the 5th & 6th of December and it is located at Greensborough Road, Macleod. There is an application process which will require some time to write and it closes on Tuesday 7th November. Please read the attachment if interested. This opportunity has been advertised on the Senior Secondary Careers TEAMs page and on COMPASS.

Year 8 Career Action Plans

Next week Year 8 students will be introduced to the GSSC Careers website. Every student in the college has access to their own account on the website but you can view it at https://www.gssccareers.com/

This website has a lot of information on it regarding careers. Students write resumes, cover letters and complete quizzes to find out what jobs suit their personality, interests and values. It is also the tool that GSSC uses for students to complete Career Actions Plans. Career Action Plans or CAPs as we call them are completed every year by each student and it is the start of them writing a road map to the future. This road map considers their career aspirations and allows them to set goals, consider the barriers and work out ways around them. The school’s Career Practitioners will be going into each Year 8 class to introduce themselves and talk about CAPS. Please remind your child to bring their computers fully charged to the class.

INTERESTED IN FORENSIC SCIENCE?

Forensic scientists are the real clue seekers of our world, using their keen eye for detail to crack cases wide open. These ingenious investigators gather evidence like fingerprints, DNA, and bloodstains, all while staying one step ahead of criminals.

Armed with state-of-the-art tools, they unearth hidden truths and piece together the puzzle of crime scenes. When it's time for justice, these experts don their metaphorical white coats and present their findings in court, making sure that the scales of justice are tipped in the right direction.

But their talents don't stop there! Forensic scientists also venture into the realms of anthropology, toxicology, and digital forensics, where they become the bone of contention, sniff out toxic substances, and crack the code of digital mysteries.

So, for high school students with a knack for science and an appetite for solving riddles, a career in forensic science is the perfect way to leave no stone unturned in the quest for truth and justice.
