From the Acting Principal

Term 4 Week 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

Confirmation

On Sunday 15 October the Our Lady’s Year 6 students joined with the students of St. Francis Xavier, Montmorency and Holy Trinity Eltham North, to receive the sacrament of Confirmation as members of the Parish of Risen Christ.

St Patrick's Cathedral sets an inspiring backdrop for the special event, in the faith journey of our students and their families. Thanks to Father Michael for his leadership and vision for bringing parish, family and schools together to make the sacrament meaningful to our community. Thanks also to Clare Bisby and Kathy Toomey for all their work in organising the logistics of the event. Special thanks to Anne Askew who worked with the students throughout their preparations at school and of course, to the parents who supported their children in this journey. Thanks to Emily Ashworth and Anita Simpson for joining Anne, Clare and Kathy at the Cathedral on Sunday for the ceremony and for all the other support they offered at school in the lead-up.

School Advisory Council Update

The school Advisory Council (SAC) has scheduled its AGM for Tuesday 21st November at 7.00pm. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the SAC for their efforts this year- chair Kate Lewis; deputy chair Mark Lafferty; and secretary Mary Karolyi; Catherine Donoghue, Kristy Williams and Sharon Walker have been a great team this year.

Each year at this time, we put a call out for parents interested in joining the SAC for 2024. This group meets eight to nine times a year and acts as a sounding board, providing an advisory body for the school principal. The following are some ways the SAC supports the school and the principal:

  • Promoting the school’s Catholic ethos and culture
  • Capital resource planning and maintenance
  • Giving advice on issues such as enrolments, school improvement plans and enrolment trends
  • Engaging in discussion about the annual school budget and other financial matters.

For those interested in further information you can find a more detailed explanation in the

School Advisory Council Terms of Reference.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the School Advisory Council may seek advice from the school principal, chair (Kate Lewis) or another member of the council.

Events

The Year 3/4 students are off to the museum on Monday  and we have the 2 Dream Music Concert Tuesday 24th October in the School Hall, starting at 2:10pm. This concert gives the students who participate in the extra curricular music and dance classes, provided by 2 Dream Music and Wellbeing, an opportunity to perform and share their talents with our school community. There will be a mix of drumming, guitar and dance. We welcome not only parents and carers of the students performing, but all other members of the community are also more than welcome to attend.

Regards,

Mark Pinkerton
