Unit of work election

In the first couple of weeks we were learning about the 3 governments .

Local, state and federal and political parties.

After that we formed our own political parties and made poster to share our policies and what changes we would make if we won the election .

In Italian we have been working on speeches to explain what we would improve if our group won the election.

On Friday 30th April all of 5/6 got together to put pieces of paper in a box.

Yeah, okay. now for the real stuff:

When we were first told we were doing democracy no one was overjoyed, but the further we got, the more we began to like it. As we neared the end of the cycle (perilous journey) and peoples(towns folk) posters/scripts began to come together– “Get to the good bit!”

Oooookkkkaaaaayyyyy…

Yup. so, as our anonymous friend says: I will get to the good bit.

Ahh. Here we go!

Now…. picture this… beautiful artistic creations (posters and brochures),a glorious silver box that holds your future in its hands (a grey ballot box taped to the table)and elegant slips of paper created purely for the purpose of scripting your opinion into being(ballot paper)

Aaaaannnnnddddd… that's enough of that.

Yeah,sooo… we stuck up a bunch of posters and brochures in the last session and we voted for our favourite parties, all in all it was a pretty good cycle.

BUT we still haven't gotten the results!

And that concludes our journey…

Courage To Care Incursion

On Friday 1st of may 5/6 got a visit from Sharyn and Jack from the Courage To Care program. They told us how to be upstanders not bystanders and especially not the perpetrators. Sharyn told us a story about her son when he was a baby and about stereotypes and discrimination while Jack told us a story about his parents who were Jewish and how they survived World War II and Adolf Hitler’s ideas to get rid of all the Jewish people as well as an estimate of 14 Million others.

Jack's dad and mum were Jewish, so when Adolf Hitler became leader in Germany they had to get out quickly. They were going to go to the gates where delivery trucks go through. They eventually get to the gates his wife runs through but her husband froze at the gate. After the incident his wife had to run and they were split up, eventually he ran past the gate but still didn't know where his wife was. Jacks dad said that people built a tunnel over 200 metres long from inside to outside of the camp. After that he walked to Italy and he met his wife there, and in the end they came to Australia and survived world war ll.

What Is An Upstander?

An upstander is a person who doesn't just watch but stops the perpetrator (the bully) and takes the victim (the person being bullied) away from them. An example is where a local farmer who wasn’t Jewish helped the people who were Jewish from the army.

What Is A Bystander?

A bystander is the person who doesn’t help the victim but just stands there. But the bystander doesn’t know that by standing there, they're actually HELPING the perpetrator by staying out of the way.

Discrimination and stereotypes

Discrimination is where you make fun of someone who is different from everyone else, such as different coloured skin,

disabilities, their culture and background or the clothes they wear and the food they eat. Stereotypes are judging someone by the way they look or what they like. Either one is not okay to do.

In the end I think this was one of the best incursions ever, 100% do it again, definitely worth it.
