From the Principal

It’s been such a joy to welcome everyone back for Term 2. There’s a really calm, settled feel across the school and so many smiling faces.Classrooms have quickly found their rhythm again, and it’s been great to see students working so positively and purposefully. A special shout-out to our Foundation cohort, who have returned after the break with a whole new level of focus and engagement - molto impressionante!
I’ve really enjoyed spending time in classrooms these past couple of weeks. It’s always a highlight seeing students so engaged and proud of their work. Our teachers have been building on the metacognitive strategies we explored on Curriculum Day, and we’re already seeing the impact, particularly in Writing and Scrittura, where graphic organisers are being utilised across all classes and year levels.
Building projects
Our junior courts redevelopment is coming along incredibly quickly. The old surface was removed in one intense flurry of pretty spectacular bobcat driving, and the space is now being prepared for the new turf, which will go in on May 18th. While this has meant quite a few changes to line-up routines and play spaces, our students have been incredible. They’ve shown flexibility, cooperation and care for one another and for their teachers, really living our values of Mutual Responsibility and Sense of Possibility. I’m very grateful to them for the way they’ve approached this, especially our 5/ 6’s, who have been exceptional role models in the way they’ve conducted themselves out on the linear park.
A big thank you to Kelley McKay and Chris Stanley for their work in finalising the design for our new nature play area within a very tight timeframe. We’re super excited that the major works on this lovely new space are now complete- che velocità! We’re looking forward to our Working Bee on May 16th, when the space will really start to come to life and many of the creative ideas our students put forward will become a reality.
This project is made possible by the generous support of BSPS families who have made donations to our Building Fund, and who have supported the many different fundraising initiatives led by our Community and Fundraising Sub-committee - everything from Ciao Downs to Festa to buying a snag at Evening on the Green - every little bit certainly does help, and goes directly towards improvements for all the kids to enjoy.
ABC News Breakfast live broadcast
We were on the telly! ABC News Breakfast broadcasted the weather reports live from our school. It was such a pleasure to see the pride our students have in their school, and to showcase some of the many programs and opportunities BSPS has to offer. Lots of students came in early to ask Nate, the ABC News meteorologist, some questions about weather and other science-related wonders. He also interviewed some lucky students about being in the State School Spectacular for the first time. We showed off our BSPS “secret handshake” - Imparere Insieme, Creare Insieme, Vivere Insieme, complete with hand gestures, and the BSPS classic, Magnifico, Fantastico, Eccellente! The clips are here if you missed it.
Camps and Excursions reminder
BSPS offers a wide range of excursions and other experiences for our students, and our teachers do a fantastic job organising these. There are many moving parts and a great deal of behind-the-scenes planning involved to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.
To avoid disappointment and ensure your child can participate, it’s essential that consent is provided via Compass by the stated due date. We’re unable to accept late consents, as final arrangements must be confirmed in advance.
Thank you for your understanding.
Ciao for now, Kristie
