Education Week
What a wonderful Education Week we have celebrated at Oakleigh Primary School. This year’s theme, ‘Showcase your school’, provided a great opportunity to highlight all that makes our school special.
From the energy and enthusiasm of our students to the dedication of our staff and our engaging learning programs, there is so much to be proud of. Our Open Afternoon gave families a valuable chance to step into classrooms, see learning in action and hear students speak about their work.
We thank our families for taking the time to attend and engage so positively. Your presence reinforces the strong home-school partnership that supports every child to thrive.
Arthur's Seat excursion
On Wednesday, 13 May, our Grade 2 students visited Arthurs Seat. They had a wonderful day exploring the area, enjoying a ride on the gondola, and learning about the history of the region. It was a fun and educational experience for all involved. Please read the 8 students recounts about the excursion below.
AusDance Incursion
On Monday, 18th May, students in Years 3 and 4 participated in an AusDance incursion exploring the world of movement through gaming.
Students began the session with a warm-up before discussing different worlds they could create using their bodies. They explored how different body parts could represent parts of a world - for example, their feet represented the ground level while their elbows represented the sky.
The students created many imaginative worlds, including water parks, moons around a strawberry planet, zoo world and “Dress to Impress” world. They then designed their own avatars to live within these worlds. Each character needed to fit into its environment, have its own way of walking and talking, and possess a special power. Some of the creative characters included dogs with super speed, transforming water creatures, and a dolphin that could control the movement of water.
The students then “powered up” their worlds and learned a sequence of dance steps using music inspired by video games. The movements reflected the actions of characters gaining special powers, similar to Super Mario or Iron Man putting on a super suit. Students also explored the dance element of slow motion throughout the performance.
At the end of the session, students performed their routines for the teachers. It was a fun and engaging morning filled with movement, creativity and discussion.
