Friday 8th March 2024

Hello Families 😊

We are just over the halfway mark of the term, and it is flying by! Our students are settling in well and are engaged in programs that our teachers and support staff have worked hard to create. I have been out of the school supporting other Specialist Schools within the region over the past week, I am proud to say things have run smoothly in my absence. I am very grateful to our leadership team, families and community members for working together to support each other and our young people in my absence.

Last Thursday we ran an external ASDAN workshop here at MSS, we had 28 staff from various schools across Victoria attend. These participants visited some of our senior classes and were very impressed with the programmes and support we provide to our students.

I was lucky enough to be able to spend a few hours with our campers at Blackwood last Thursday evening & return Friday morning to check in on them all. Lots of very happy very tired campers who had many adventures over the 2 days.

This coming Thursday March 14th we will be hosting an external event. Gate 1 & 2 will be closed between 10.30 & 1.30, If you are picking up your young person between these times, please allow sufficient time for parking etc.

As a school we believe it is important to build our students up for post school life. Each year our senior students participate in Structured Workplace Learning (SWL). We are proud to announce the following students have been successful in attending interviews and commencing SWL with in our local community. Students attended interviews and were successful at following work placements:

  • Hunter will be working at the Melton Library
  • Jordan N will be assisting our MSS Maintenance Team]
  • Tajh will be working with Squires Mowers and Machinery
  • Noah will be working at Elite Tyres and Auto

Community Connections:

Natalie, our NDIS Navigator has been running some successful parenting sessions with our families. It is great to see our families attending school for information sessions, learning how to better support their young people.

Parent Drop Off & Pick Up

Please remember the correct procedure for dropping off or picking up your students.

  • The “loop” opens each morning at approximately 9am & 3pm each day after the busses depart.
  • All cars must enter via gate 1 & exit through gate 2
  • All vehicles must turn their engine off & display their students name on the dash inside the car.
  • There will be staff to assist in getting your student to or from the car, please do not leave your car.
  • Please DO NOT double park in the service road as council regularly patrol the area and fines have been given out.
  • Please ensure you are not blocking traffic flow on Coburns Rd. If traffic is banked up outside the service road, please safely move around them and do a “loop”.
