Term 1: Week 10
Last week, we wrapped up NAPLAN for our Year 7 and 9 cohorts. Thank you to our parents and families for their support during this important time.
Harmony Week was an absolute whirlwind event that embraced the many cultures we have at St Mary’s. It was wonderful to share a multi-cultural meal at the Table of Plenty lunch, which took place on Tuesday.
Last week we had some Police Officers attend St Mary’s after school to ensure our students and families were meeting the road rules and parking requirements. Students and the use of e-scooters continue to be a concern. Please ensure your child meets the road safety requirements when riding a bike or e-scooter to school.
This week, all year levels will be finalising assessments and/or commencing new work. All students are expected to attend until Thursday at 1:30 pm to ensure continuity of learning.
We recognise Easter at St Mary’s this week with the death and resurrection of Jesus in our Easter Liturgy involving the 12 Stations of the Cross. This tradition at St Mary’s is important to our community and one all students look forward to in finishing Term 1.
Caritas will wrap up this week with the final year-level activities taking place to raise money. Please encourage your child to bring along some small change for the activities.
Term 1 reports will be available on Thursday afternoon. These are a fantastic conversation starter; please take the time to read these with your child. Highlight the successes and identify the areas to target in Term 2!
School holidays are almost upon us! Students, families and staff look forward to a restful break ready to commence Term 2.
In Term 2 we have some exciting events to look forward to, which include St Mary’s Cross Country, Musical Rehearsals, St Mary’s Athletics Carnival and Choir camp to mention a few!
E-SCOOTER MISUSE:
We are still witnessing students misusing e-scooters in and around the College. Whilst they are a great option for getting to school on time, we have had several near misses with cars. We also have concerns that some of our students may be in breach of Queensland Transport Law.
If you have not discussed these laws with your child, please click the following link and discuss, as a family, what it means for students on e-scooters: https://bit.ly/QLDGovernmentScooterRules
NO E-SCOOTERS ARE TO ENTER THE COLLEGE VIA SUNBIRD DRIVE
Our main area of concern is our Sunbird Drive entrance (Trade Training Centre carpark), due to the tight footpath and heavy traffic. Therefore, to mitigate risk to students' safety from next week students will not be permitted to enter with e-scooters from the Sunbird Drive.
The video below aptly named 'RULES FOR RIDERS', developed by the Queensland Government, is a fantastic resource that we encourage all families to watch together: https://bit.ly/QLDGovtScooterRulesVideo
