Dear Clayton North Primary School Community

What a jam-packed 9 weeks of Term 1 we have had - Athletics, Cross Country, Summer Gala, STEM Young Rocketeers, Maths Hour, Chess Club, Coding Club, NAPLAN, Harmony Day, Science Fair, Sport Carnival! Our students are incredibly fortunate to experience a wide variety of learning activities that are fun and engaging.

Thank all members of the Clayton North Learning Community for your support, participation and contribution to a successful start to the 2024 school year!

Term 2 will bring many more exciting art, sports, life skills and academic events, including a Year 5/6 Sleepover and Cultural Diversity Day.

Josie and I are looking forward to commencing the Claytonnorth High Ability Program (CHAP) with a small select group of talented Year 3-6 Numeracy and Literacy students. This program aims to offer challenge and extend our high-performing students through targeted activities, including incursions, excursions and projects.

Supported by Belinda, the Student Representative Council (SRC) will begin their work to increase student voice and leadership, and enhance opportunities for students to 'have their say'.

There will also be a focus on science, gardening, student leadership, and lunchtime clubs.

Communication

In order to ensure your child’s continued growth and success at Clayton North PS, it is important to keep the channels of communication open between home and school. Research shows that children whose parents are involved in their education tend to achieve greater success than those whose parents are isolated from their child’s education. At CNPS, we have a few different platforms that we use to maintain contact with families and to keep you informed of the activities and events specifically to your child, as well as those that impact the school community. To ensure that you are fully informed of all that is going on at the school and in the classroom, it is important to have access to the different platforms.

Classroom teachers use Seesaw to communicate with you regarding matters that relate to your child, such as the weekly Learning Intentions and Success Criteria. Children also upload samples of their work each week. Parents have direct contact with their child's teacher via Seesaw.

Compass, our new LMS, provides us with the means to inform the school community of important events, such as school photo day, Harmony Day arrangements, curriculum days, etc. Compass is also where you will find details of excursions/incursions. Online consent and payments are preferred by the due dates as stated on the Compass event information. Pease note that online consent/payment cannot be made after the due date.

A Compass Calendar has been set up for parents to access dates and events that you need to be aware of.

I am pleased to see that the majority of parents are using Compass regularly. If you need support in logging in and getting started, please contact the office early in Term 2.

A school newsletter is published every three weeks, which includes student achievement information, a calendar of important dates, and a summary of what has happened over the period of time. The newsletter is shared with the school community via Seesaw and Compass.

We use the digital sign outside the school on Dandenong Road to publish the latest news and event details.

As it can be seen, we have made every attempt to ensure all families are well-informed and that consenting and paying for activities and events is as simple a process as possible.

Parent Code of Conduct

Shared values and an understanding of behaviours enable a community to work and live together through positive collaboration. The Parent Code of Conduct (PCC) has been developed to ensure parents and those with parental responsibilities (carers, step-parents, extended family members) are aware of and meet CNPS’s expectations with regard to their interaction with the school, the staff, students and other parents, while on school grounds and at local school events.

In developing the PCC, the school recognises parents want the best for their children. Clayton North PS also expects parents to recognise it must ultimately balance the interests of all of CNPS's stakeholders (students, parents, CNPS staff and their right to a safe working environment). The PCC operates in addition to all other School policies and procedures which apply to parents.

The attached CNPS Parent Code of Conduct was ratified and passed at our first School Council meeting this year on Tuesday 19th March.

Happy holidays!
