Please continue to support your child’s reading daily. We continually monitor and assess students’ reading in class and assign readers based on their areas of strength. Home readers are not meant to be challenging, but a resource to strengthen what they have learned,. You may wish to continue with some of the suggested holiday activities that were sent home focusing on handwriting and spelling.

God is and their interactions/interpretations of God. Students will identify and explain ways to look after the environment. Students will explain how people are connected to the environment and ways to ensure we are protecting the environment we were provided

with.

English

Through our daily phonics lessons, the Prep students will continue to build their knowledge of letter/sound combinations. After mastering all initial single letter sounds we will delve into common digraphs, including /sh/, /ch/, /th/ and /ss/, /        / and /ll/.

Reading:

Our reading approach caters to all components of reading - phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students will engage in weekly lessons that will allow them to apply their letter/sound knowledge to read appropriate decodable texts. We utilise well chosen texts that also promote fluency development. Our Term Two Core Knowledge Units are titled Stories and Plants. These units are rich in language and content, which support students in building their worldly knowledge as well as promote the use of rich vocabulary. These units are also used to support students' oral comprehension development.

Writing:

Our writing lessons are taught explicitly and sequentially. Students are engaged in a range of guided and independent writing opportunities. This term our focus is on students using their letter/sound knowledge to write words as well as building their confidence to attempt the spelling of unknown words by making appropriate spelling choices. A heavy focus will be on students building their understanding that a complete sentence needs to contain a ‘who’ and ‘what doing’ as well as a capital letter, full stop, and spaces.
