College Production - The Wizard of Oz

A cyclone of excitement took over the Performing Arts rooms, as we worked our way from production reveal, group auditions, call backs to cast announcements! It’s been a busy time, but so rewarding to see so many students put themselves out there to get involved in our college show.

With rehearsals officially starting in Term 2, we are so excited to see this group of talented students push themselves outside of their comfort zone to create a spectacular show for our community.

Back to the 80s, our debut production, was such a success that we are making even bigger and bolder choices this year. We have many more exciting announcements coming your way... stay tuned to find out what we have planned!

And now, a message from your Performing Arts Captains:

Our school's 2024 production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is currently on the way to being a success! When the production was announced, there was nothing but positive responses from the students. So many were keen to be a part of the show, whether they are cast or crew. So, far only the cast has been created with more news about crew to come in late term 2.

Ever since last year’s production everyone has been working together to try and find out what the next production may be. We all tried many times, definitely annoying Ms. Hawking and Mr. Smith, but that’s the fun of it. The teachers said that the joy of the production is finding out what it is together. Yes, it is a significant part but the thing that we’ll all remember is how hard we all tried as a group to get any of the teachers to spill the beans of what the production would be. When we found out that our school was doing ‘The Wizard of Oz’ excitement filled the room. All the students are excited and on board to make a Pakenham Secondary College take on such a classic musical.

Over the last fortnight, the students who were keen to earn a role in our school’s production went through a long audition process, creating emotions of fear, excitement, then joy and as the cast was finally announced!

We had begun the audition process by learning and practicing an audition song and dance sorted by the wonderful Ms. Lentini. After performing our hearts out in group auditions we all waited together for the call-back list which shared who would have a single audition to showcase their musical talents. Soon, everyone prepared themselves together for the final cast list.

As a cohort we are all overjoyed and looking forward to the upcoming rehearsals that will definitely create more than just friendships. We’re looking forward to becoming a production family with these amazing people. With this we are also looking forward to all the upcoming rehearsals and seeing how this fabulous show will be stitched together.

Overall, this will be a thrilling experience for all of us and we personally can’t wait to present the show to the community in August.
