Holiday Works

Park Ridge Primary School was a hive of activity throughout the recent Term break with a plethora of works being completed through the school.  Many of the below works have been part of ongoing projects so it is very exciting to see the completion of many of these school improvements.

Level 1 Building Painting

All classrooms, storerooms, office spaces and withdrawal rooms within our Level 1 building were painted during the holiday period. The modern colour scheme and clean finish has definitely brightened the classrooms. We look forward to potentially painting other areas of the school in the near future.

Minor Capital Works Grant

A number of works were completed to finalise our recent Minor Capital Works Grant of approximately $370,000. This included further roof works to the Level 2 building and a number of repairs to both the roof and the interior of the Art Room.

Ground Works

A range of grounds works were undertaken over the two weeks including

  • Spreading over 12 cubic metres of topsoil over the back oval in an effort to level out divots and uneven surfaces
  • The creation of drainage channels behind the gym to prevent water ingress to the building
  • Spreading of mulch and turning over the soil in the garden areas at the front of the school

These works were funding from our voluntary parent contributions dedicated to Grounds works and improvements.

VSBA Ramp Upgrade

Our access ramps near the Administration building and Rooms 27/28 were made compliant which included concrete works in both areas to lengthen the ramps. Both ramps were painted and treated with anti-slip coatings to ensure compliance.

The major works of this project concerned the walkway outside Rooms 17 and 18. The walkway was lifted and re-concreted to create a compliant pathway for wheelchair use so that we could retain our recently installed artificial turf and seating areas. In a pleasant surprise, the architectural plans were changed at the last minute to install a concrete seating area next the the basketball courts.

This considerable change (along with poor weather) has meant that works have continued this week but I have been assured by our contractors that all works and rectifications will be completed as soon as possible.

All of the above ramp related works were funded by the Victorian School Building Authority in their commitment to ensuring all school facilities are accessible and inclusive to all students.

We look forward to exploring all opportunities during 2024 and beyond to further improve our school's facilities and environment.
