Welcome to Term 2! Our Prep to Year 6 students had a fantastic start, immersing themselves in the LOTE sessions. Year 5 students, as part of their revision on Chinese New Year (CNY), completed a CNY word search, showcasing their acquired knowledge and deepening their understanding of the focused vocabulary. Year 6 learners, on the other hand, delved into the significance of the red packet (红包 🧧) in China. They demonstrated their creativity by making an authentic red packet using a given template. They also learned some common CNY greeting idioms for 2024, such as ‘龙年大吉 (Good luck in the Year of the Dragon) and 大吉大利 (Wishing you good fortune and prosperity in 2024)’! Our Prep students had an amazing experience when they inquired about the Chinese character of Dragon ‘龙’ and achieved a basic level of understanding of the correct writing strokes of the Chinese character ‘龙’. They showcased their creative thinking by designing various patterns of this Chinese character.

Looking ahead, our Prep to Year 6 students are gearing up for their exciting new units of inquiry starting from Week 2 of Term 2. This unit will delve into various aspects of Chinese culture and language. Please refer to the attached KUD for detailed information.
