As a staff, we routinely review attendance data. We will be looking at this data in the next few weeks and contacting families where students are consistently late to class, particularly in the morning.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the home group teacher.

Early Pick Ups and Lunch Drop Offs

We understand that there are specific reasons that students may need to be picked up early from school, but we ask as much as possible if that could be communicated with the classroom teacher directly the day before or before school on the day as well as including admin into that communication. We do not like to make announcements for children to come to the office as it interrupts learning time and in a school of 1700 children, I am sure you can understand that there would be a lot of announcements around a number of different things so trying to keep them to a minimum is important. This is true of lunches being dropped off as well. Can I ask that parents are patient and respectful in their interactions with the administration staff who work hard to meet your needs but in schools no day is the same as there are a number of moving parts and a number of contingencies can be occurring at any one time? Best laid plans may not always work the way we want but treating our staff respectfully is important so I ask that parents remember this when they may find themselves in a stressful situation.

SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION WITH 12 MONTHS FREE INTERNET AT HOME

The Australian Government has established the School Student Broadband Initiative to provide free home internet for one year for up to 30,000 eligible families with school-aged students.

The initiative aims to boost education opportunities. NBN Co is leading the rollout of this initiative across the country.

How the School Student Broadband Initiative can help your child

Children who can access online learning at home as part of their education are more likely to engage in classroom activities.

Access to fast internet at home can also support children to build their digital skills, learn how to safely use the internet and take part in a world that is more reliant on digital technology.

Eligibility

To be eligible, families must:

* have a child living at home enrolled in an Australian school in 2023

* not have an active National Broadband Network internet service at their home (having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility)

* live in a premises that can access the National Broadband Network through a standard connection. NBN Co will check this for you after you apply

* register interest with your school and complete a consent form to be assessed for eligibility.

How the School Student Broadband Initiative works

If you are eligible, your home internet service will be provided at no cost for one year with a participating internet provider over the National Broadband Network. Each internet provider has its own step-by-step process to get you connected, which may involve you providing identification.

Sunhats, sunscreen and keeping your child hydrated

It looks like summer has finally arrived with hot days forecast over the coming weeks. It is important that our students are SunSmart.

HATS

Hats are compulsory at DCC in Terms 1 & 4. Please ensure that your child has a hat at school to wear each day and it is labelled with their full name and class (we have ALOT of hats in lost property with no names on them). We have limited shaded areas within the school for children to play if they are not wearing a hat.

 SUNSCREEN

We recommend that you put sunscreen on your child before they arrive at school and that the children re-apply before playtimes if you want them to be wearing sunscreen. Students are allowed to have sunscreen at school however it must be:

  • kept in their bag.
  • named
  • a roll on bottle (This is for safety and OHS reasons).

HYDRATION

Please ensure you send your child to school with a filled water bottle that has their name and class on it (we also have LOTS of water bottles in lost property with no name). There are various points around the school where students are able to refill their water bottles. Thanks for helping us assist your children to be SunSmart at school.

Change of clothes:

If your child is in Prep, or is prone to having “accidents”, please leave a change of clothes in their bag as the school has very little spare uniform to be able to supply a change.

Lost Property:

We always aim to return what we can but often when items are unnamed, they are added and remain to the ever increasing lost property pile.

We hope to reunite as many items as possible with their rightful owners. If you think your child may have misplaced anything at the school, please take a moment to look through the wooden create located in the library entrance.

Please LABEL your children's belongings!

We have an enormous amount of lost property that was not labelled.  Please make sure that all of your child’s uniform is labelled with their FULL NAME, as well as their lunch boxes, drink bottles etc, so that we can ensure that the lost hats, jackets, jumpers are returned to their rightful owners.

If you have already labelled these items, it is also a good idea to check that they are still legible, as a lot of them have faded or smudged in the wash, making it difficult to identify them.
