The end of the beginning of the school year.

It seems impossible that we are heading into the last week of Term 1 already, and what a term it has been on the Burnie Campus. So many great things have been happening both in and out of the classrooms and with teacher professional development.

We have loved watching the new Year 5 and 6 classrooms take form over these past weeks, and we look forward to occupying them in Term 2! We are incredibly thankful to the school Board for their vision and support to see these new classrooms built.

The Early Years teachers and Learning Support aides have been focusing on literacy. As a school, we are partnering with Jocelyn Seamer (Home - Jocelyn Seamer Education) to make teaching structured literacy simple, efficient, and successful. Jocelyn has been spending time with our staff, getting to know our context, and reviewing what we already do in literacy to perfectly craft a program for our school and students.

In the upper primary, we have been immersing teachers in the concept of Project Based learning as we partner with NewTechAU to upskill teachers in this dynamic and rigorous way of learning that prepares our students to connect their learning to life. We look forward to their planning becoming a reality in the classrooms in Term 3.

Last week, we held our Grandparents and Special Friends morning; the first we have had for several years. With 180 guests in the school, it was wonderful to share some of our Worship Wednesday songs and the Drum Beat program with everyone.

The classrooms have been a hive of learning, and it is great to see children growing, questioning, and developing their skills and talents.

Mrs Polden, our Child Safety Officer, visited each of the classrooms to make sure the children know who to talk to when they have a concern, and what kinds of things to talk to her about. She also shared with them that we are keen to hear their voice in the school and as a result, we have received some wonderful letters with fabulous ideas for the campus. While we may not be able to do all the things that have been suggested, we certainly can take some of them on board to make our school a place where children are seen, heard and their contributions valued.

As we go into the holidays this Wednesday, we will be praying for each of you as you embrace this down time and get to spend quality time with each other over the next two and a half weeks.

We are looking forward to seeing you all again in Term 2.
