Sustainability @ TPPS
This fortnight the Prep students have been learning about the lifecycle of the butterfly and what they need for their habitat. They discovered that Templestowe Park is a wonderful place for butterflies to live. The big words we learned about butterflies were: pollinators, chrysalis and metamorphosis.
Lunchtime legends helping Ms Conn with the garden!
Grade 2s have learned all about the local Wurundjeri seasons and what changes are happening in our own garden this month. They made a very impressive list of observations including which plants are flowering and what the weather is like. We talked about what we love doing in Wombat Season (Waring).
The Grade 5 students have taken advantage of the good weather and worked in the garden and chicken coop, tidying everything up. They must be very good at keeping their rooms clean at home! 😀 They have continued learning about fungi and have noticed that their button mushrooms are starting to pop up in the box!
Grade 5s and 6s have been learning about the names and features of different kinds of clouds this week. The favourite cloud by far was the cumulonimbus - a huge cloud that can make thunder, lightning, hail and even tornadoes!
In Grade 6, we planted some potatoes in bags. The idea is to gradually fill up the bags with good soil as the plants get bigger, allowing the potatoes to grow along the new roots that form. This process is called “hilling”. When the potatoes are ready to harvest, all we will need to do is tip them out of the bag!
Newsflash: One of the hens has laid her first egg! What a clever little chook! 🐔
We think it was Henny Penny because she has the reddest comb on her head. When hens have a pink comb it means they are not ready to lay eggs yet.
