Celebration of Learning

Last Thursday we opened our classrooms for parents and carers to visit to gain an insight into the amazing work the students have been doing over the term. It was great to see so many family members attend! It was pleasing to see the number of families of our older students in Year 5 and 6 attend as well – even though they are more independent, they still value sharing their learning with the important people in their lives.

Year 5 Camp

On Monday, June 17th, our Year 5 students went off to camp! We had 41 of our students attend the amazing 3-day experience to Camp Campaspse Downs. Our main focus for camp was Resilience. Upon arrival, they met their Camp Leader, Mitch, and started their experience with Possum Glider and Initiatives (group problem solving activities). In the evening they toasted marshmallows around the campfire.

On Tuesday, they tackled the climbing wall and archery. We discovered quite a few of students had a great aim! After lunch they participated in bushcraft; building a survival shelter using rope, a tarp and whatever they could find in the environment. It was amazing to see how well the students worked together to create some amazing shelters. Laser Tag in the bush was a really fun activity, with lots of teamwork and strategy. In the evening, we saw everyone busting their moves at the Disco, with Boston taking out the ‘Best Dancer’ award and Ella-Ivy the champion at Musical Chairs.

After a very chilly start of -4 degrees, the campers had their final round of activities. The first for one group being canoeing. It was pretty cold to start with, out on the water, but as the sun came up, it warmed quite quickly. Then it was off to the Centipede, a very wobbly and taxing climbing challenge. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch and to board the bus back to school!

I was fortunate to be able to join the camp from Tuesday afternoon and I must say what a great experience it was to work with the students in a different environment! Thanks to the teachers, Mrs Kelly and Ms La Motta, and to Ms Lisa and Mrs Antonopoulos for taking our students to camp!

Finally, well done to all the students who went. You all worked so well together and certainly demonstrated our School Values. Feedback from the camp staff was that you were great students who had a go at everything and had some of the best manners they had seen. Congratulations to you all!
