Welcome back to Term 3, which has already proved to be eventful. It has been terrific to see our students respectfully participate in all of our NAIDOC week activities, learning about indigenous culture and history. The afternoon PBS groups (mixed grade levels) have been well supported by our Grade 6 students.
I was excited to see the end result of the Grade 5/6 Penguin project the students completed with Miss Maree in their Art sessions. The penguins have been posted off to Tasmania where the Bunyip PS penguins will join the rookery with other penguins. Having been on a 2 week expedition to Antarctica, I was excited for our students to be part of this project. Our little family of penguins is going to be a stand out addition to the display.
SWIMMING PROGRAM:
A reminder that the swimming program is a part of the curriculum which the Department of Education requires us to cover. At this stage we still have a larger percentage of parents yet to either accept or decline the swimming program on compass. Forward planning for these events is very difficult if you do not respond to events in a timely manner. Please ensure you keep up to date with notices and events on compass.
Parent Teacher Interviews:
If you haven't yet booked your time to meet with your child's teacher can you please do this promptly. If there are no times suitable, please contact your child's teacher to arrange an alternative time. Mr Hudson will be available for Grade 5/6 interviews to discuss Semester 1 progress and note any concerns for Semester 2.
BER building update:
A huge thank you to our community for your assistance on Tuesday when we discovered that the BER building was flooded. The help and support from our community enabled our Prep to 2 students to quickly get settled in alternative learning spaces.
On Monday, Grade 1/2 Stoll will move from the Science room to classroom 2, near the office. This classroom had been closed whilst the ceiling was repaired. This room has now been declared safe for use.
The damage in the BER building was significant. At this stage the workers have pumped out the water, disposed of all soft furnishing and water damaged items, sterilised any salvageable items that were contaminated by the blackwater, stored items in a shipping container - including all of the library books. All carpet and vinyl floorings have been removed and disposed of. Next steps will be to remove skirting boards, treat the floors, dry the floors and then start the process of returning the building back to a usable state. The expected date of completed works is September 2nd.
We currently have the hall out of use as all carpets have been removed with new carpet tiles expected to be laid next week.
Signing Students in and Out of School:
On any occasions that students are brought to school late or required to be collected early, it is necessary for parents to sign the children in and out at the office. Please do not collect your children directly from the classroom or drop them off without coming to the school office. It's important that late arrivals and early departures be limited to minimal occasions. Arriving late and leaving early on a regular basis is disruptive to your child's learning and also to the classroom learning environment.
