Emil Interviews the Support Staff

Emil in Year 6 is one of our Communication Leaders, in this edition of the newsletter he shares his interviews with the Education Support Staff.  Emil spent some of his lunch time filming or writing up his interviews.  Well done Emil for capturing the hard working Education Support Staff that were at school last Friday.

Ms Sam

What have you been focusing on with the students?

I’m fortunate to be working with students across the school. This term we’ve been focusing on comprehension strategies, phonics, sentence writing, prepositions and reading. Mr Tom and I have been taking a group of students each week to do a fun experiment then write about the steps involved and what they have discovered. In Maths I’ve been based in the ¾ classroom and working with students on telling the time, place value and multiplication.

What new training have you been sharing with the students?

All the staff recently undertook a Mental Health PD which gave me some insight into some of the things that can make our students feel anxious and how to help them with what they are going through.

What part of being a support staff do you enjoy?

I love it when a student starts to feel that they are really getting something that’s been difficult for them. It’s really rewarding to see the pride they take in their learning when they have that sense of achievement and know they can do it themselves.

Ms Mary

What have you been focusing on with the students?

I work with a couple of students on number sense and additional phonics to help reinforce their learning and develop their understanding. I also help students to understand and follow instructions.

I have been helping some of our Preps develop their sound and letter recognition, how to blend and segment sounds and how to say a sentence that includes nouns and verbs. I also help students with developing their number sense, so they can eventually learn how to add and subtract.

What part of being a support staff do you enjoy?

I love to support children and watch them grow in their learning.
