I know that for many families, when we say have a great holiday, this actually means additional challenges for managing families and work. I appreciate these efforts and thank you for your support. I guarantee you, from 21 years experience, the kids need the break, and it will help them recharge for another term of learning. My hope is that there can be a few opportunities for great connection. It is not the quantity of time that is important, but the quality of the experience. As a working parent, it is challenging, but it is worth it as well!
Enrolments
In the past two weeks we have had 6 new students enrol at our school. This is really exciting and showing that our school is starting to be the school of choice for many. I am proud to be the Principal of this school, and how calm the learning environment is. We are filling up our Prep spots for next year, so if you know anyone who would like to join, please encourage them to get in touch.
Holidays
If you need to reach out to the school on the holidays, please email principal@hfdoveton.catholic.edu.au, as this will be checked and responded to every few days.
Soccer Academy, Hands-on Academy and Art Academy
Our Year 4 to 6 students have participated in various learning opportunities over the term. It has been wonderful to see how engaged the students are in their learning and interestingly, student attendance has grown throughout the term. We will continue to explore how we can focus on student strengths to foster self efficacy and engagement.
Students Resume
The students resume on Tuesday the 16th of July. The staff will all be at school on Monday the 15th for a professional learning day. The focus will be on Catholic Social Teaching and reflecting on our own faith experiences.
Address, Emails and Phone Numbers
Please ensure you update your address, email address and phone numbers if they change. In case of emergency, we need to ensure we can reach you quickly. We would do this via Operoo, but some people have not got these profiles. We are focusing on updating how we can communicate quickly and effectively and this may mean some changes next term.
School Advisory Board
I will be running the school Advisory Board on the 25th of July. I have a few new members which is exciting. We want to hear what parents think. If you are interested in being involved, please email principal@hfdoveton.catholic.edu.au.
Be ESafe the Holidays
We have joined the Allanah and Madeleine ESafe Platform. The school holidays are a big risk time online. We have spoken to students about what they should do if something appears wrong online. It is so important to focus on trust, and if the children report something they are worried about, we praise them for seeking help, rather than punish and degrade the device. Help seeking is one of the most critical skills we can develop with children and it relies on trust. As parents, we grew up with stranger danger, which is still relevant, however, those strangers can now connect with your children online through a game. I strongly encourage all parents use esaftey.gov.au to empower yourself with the knowledge needed.
Take Care,
Paul Sharp
