eSafety Tips for Parents:

Use Parental Controls

Parental controls are software tools that allow you to monitor and limit what your child sees and does online.

They can be set up to do things like:

  • Block your child from accessing specific websites, apps or functions (like using a device’s camera, or the ability to buy things).
  • Filter different kinds of content — such as ‘adult’ or sexual content, content that may promote self-harm, eating disorders, violence, drugs, gambling, racism and terrorism.
  • Allow you to monitor your child’s use of connected devices, with reports on the sites they visit and the apps they use, how often and for how long.
  • Set time limits, blocking access after a set time.

Please see the eSafety website for further information for parents and carers to understand more about the different parental controls available and which settings are best suited to your family.

Support for families available

Please remember that there is always help and support available should you need it for you and your family. Your child/ren’s classroom teacher is often a good first point of contact for assistance, and they may refer your situation to a principal or member of the wellbeing team in confidence.

We are able to offer some financial assistance to families in need to purchase items required for students to attend and engage in learning, as well as strengthen their educational experience. This can be done through the Ballarat Foundation Back to School Voucher program and also the State Schools Relief Fund.

If your family is having difficulty during this time, please contact Narelle Sullivan (narelle.sullivan@education.vic.gov.au) or the school office to make an appointment to discuss your situation.

All correspondence will remain confidential.

Container Deposit Scheme

Both campuses of our school have received collection bins to place our containers in from McCallum disability services.  Our year 6 sustainability team have presented at assembly and been around to each classroom to promote the scheme and ensure all containers at school (e.g. drinks from the canteen) are recycled appropriately.

Our school will receive 7 cents per container, with the remaining 3 cents contributing towards pickup and collection fees.

This is a win-win situation, with the school receiving additional fundraising money to put towards various projects at each campus, while at the same time helping to support sustainable employment for people living with a disability. Not to mention the environmental benefits of recycling!

We welcome any families or members of the community who would like to donate their containers to support our fundraising efforts to drop them off at the main office at Buninyong, or at Scotsburn.

All containers eligible for the 10 cent refund through the Container Deposit Scheme in Victoria are welcome.

Bunjil Awards

Congratulations to the following students who received a Bunjil Award at last week’s 3/4 school assembly:

Bunjil awards recognise student achievement and those who display our school values of being respectful, responsible and kind.

Well done! All of our recipients enjoyed a hot chocolate or zooper dooper with a principal this week.
