Physical Education

Hello there!

Here we are in week 3 of term 3 and Olympic fever has swept through our classes. All students had a lucky dip and chose a country they can earn points for over the duration of the Paris Games. Points are being given for winning a game, good teamwork, showing integrity and displaying positive and supportive behaviour. It’s been really fun and has been a great opportunity to educate our students on what the Olympics are and why they hold such importance on the world sporting stage.

PREPS – As has become ‘our thing’ in Prep PE, we are dancing, dancing, dancing! I’m lucky enough to have the Preps first thing two mornings a week and it is without a doubt, the best way to start the day. I can’t speak highly enough about their energy, positivity and willingness to rise to any challenge. We’ll keep working on our fine motor skills through a range of games and activities and will start our gymnastics unit the week after the Olympics.

1/2s – We’re having so much fun playing a range of games, dancing and doing fitness circuits. I’m noticing a real shift in the growth mindset of so many students who previously may have given up when a game or skill felt too hard. This is what I love to see as a PE teacher. I’m not looking for the best or the fastest, I’m looking for those who believe in themselves and don’t stop trying.

3/4s – The Olympics have become the focus of our classes which is allowing us the opportunity to play a range of games and try out new skills. The week we did our fitness circuits was a hit, the gym was buzzing with excitement and a real sense of fun and rigour. The introduction of 8-square has been so much fun!

5/6s – Much like the other classes, we’ve been playing a range of sports and games. Once the Olympics are over, we will focus on one sport and refine our skills and knowledge on that. Puberty Education classes are under way and from my point of view, are going really well. As well as learning a lot we are also having a laugh and understand that through the awkwardness, we can still be respectful and learn more about ourselves and each other.

In Week 5 we will see over 30 LPS students participate in the District Athletics in Bendigo. Students will compete in a range of track and field events where they will get to represent our wonderful school. They will not only aim for a ribbon and a place in the Division even but show the amazing school spirit LPS has become known for. Good luck everyone, I’m excited for you!

The week after, the boys’ volleyball team will play in the Division event in Bendigo. They earned their spot by coming out on top of the ladder at COBAW event last term in Romsey. They’ve been training every lunchtime with Mr Lewis and are showing huge amounts of improvement. Good luck boys!

Thanks everyone, I’m having a brilliant term with these wonderful kids!
