Year 3/4
It has been an action-packed return to school in Term 3. We caught a bus to Imax in Melbourne where we watched Volcanoes 3D and had a play in the park. The kids were blown away by the size of the screen and the 3D video. Overall, a great day was had by all.
In week 2 we had an incursion ‘sticks and stones’ where we watched an entertaining show that taught us about resilience, cyber safety and positive connections. Our soup and slippers day was a huge success. It was great to see so many of the students enjoying the delicious soup and we raised $260 for out of home children.
In the classrooms we have been reading the novel Nim’s Island by Wendy Orr. It tells the story of Nim, a young girl living on a remote island with her scientist father. When he goes missing at sea, Nim relies on her animal friends and an adventure writer to survive and find her dad.
Fractions have been a focus in Maths and we have continued to develop our number fluency with a focus on the 7 times tables. We have seen some great results as a cohort in our regular 99math fluency tests.
The students have been researching an Australian Olympic athlete and creating posters of their Olympian in celebration of their amazing achievements. We were also very lucky and had a presentation from Angus and Eliza Moloney and their dad Ross who carried the Sydney 2000 Olympic torch through Tylden as a grade 6 student. We got to see the torch and hear about the concept behind it and the process of being selected to carry the torch.

Lucy designed her Olympic mascot for the Australian team in 3d on our program called Makers Empire. We have printed it in 3d but here it is in augmented reality sitting with Lucy and Ayla.
