Excursion Grade 3

On Monday the 28th of October, the Grade 3's went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum and Imax because our unit of inquiry is Sharing the Planet. The central idea is ‘Living things move through cycles and have classifiable features.’

The areas we explored were:

Dinosaur Walk, Dynamic Earth, Forest Gallery and Bugs Alive. We also went into the learning hub to learn about bugs, pollinators and their predators.

After lunch, we went into IMAX to watch a 3D movie called ‘Flight of the Butterflies.’

Here are some facts we learnt:

  • Gold can be found inside other crystals.
  • Different rocks glow in different light.
  • Blue Bandit bees bang their heads 350 times a second to get food and pollen.
  • Most of the fruits and vegetables we eat comes from pollinating bees.
  • Caterpillars only eat milkweed when they come out of their egg.
  • Monarch butterflies are originally from Northern America and were introduced to Australia in the 1870s.

Overall, it was a great excursion!
