Around the Classrooms

Performing Arts

This week in Performing Arts, the preps have been improving their rhythm timing, dancing to Calypso with ribbons or playing with rhythm sticks to Rockin’ Rhythm. Both songs can be found on Spotify if students would like to show you at home what they’ve been doing!  Their enthusiasm is infectious!

The 1/2s have been improvising with dancing and rhythms, creating their own moves and styles to the song Lemonade Crunchy Ice.  They progressed so well, that we began using melodic instruments (glockenspiels, xylophones etc) where students could improvise on a pentatonic scale (5 notes). Some classes even managed to write their own notes to the song!

The 3/4s did a great job learning how to perform the Scissor dance, a folk dance from Hungary where your legs move in a scissor motion.  It’s very fast and they did extremely well to keep up with the tempo!

The 5/6s have started their preparation for the Graduation performance.  I’m so excited by the amount of volunteers to sing or perform special parts! So far we’ve learned one dance and two songs already (but secret squirrel, it’s going to be a surprise).  The grade fives are doing an excellent job helping the grade 6’s learn (and I’ve discovered some excellent singers in grade five which stands in good stead for next year’s production!).

Keep up the great work everyone!
