Dinosaur Dig Day

In Term 3, our Stage 1 scientists worked hard, developing the skills we needed to be palaeontologists.  We learned about fossils and other clues that help scientists form ideas about the way dinosaurs lived so long ago.

During the term we researched to find out what some scientists think about what dinosaurs looked like, where they lived, what they ate and how they protected themselves. We also checked out what the Bible has to say about God’s creation of the world we live in, including so many amazing plants and animals.

To celebrate our learning, we finished the term with our exciting Dinosaur Dig Day. During the day we used archaeological tools to excavate fossils from the sand, and chocolate chips from cookies. We made dinosaur skeletons and measured the size of different dinosaur footprints. At one point, we even created a cave for our mini dinosaurs using toothpicks and lollies.

As a highlight, we finished the day eating delicious cupcakes made by Mrs Dagg (thank you so much!!)

We’d love to say a huge “THANK YOU!”  to all the teachers and teacher aides for all their work, giving us an amazing day full of fun and learning.

K-2 Mini Athletics Day

What a fantastic time we had at our K-2 Mini Athletics Day! It was an action-packed morning filled with lots of energy as our young athletes rotated through a series of fun and engaging activities. It was wonderful to see the excitement on the kids' faces as they took part in each event, giving it their all and cheering on their friends.

The day was set up with different stations where classes rotated through a variety of athletic activities. These included:

  • Obstacle Course: The kids loved navigating through tunnels, climbing over small hurdles, and weaving around cones. It was great to see their determination and agility in action!
  • Running Races: We saw some speedy sprints, as well as some adorable "run-with-a-friend" moments. Whether they were racing for the win or just having fun, everyone showed fantastic effort.
  • Turbo Javelin: Our little athletes enjoyed giving it their best shot as they threw the soft, child-friendly javelins. We may have a few future Olympians in our midst!
  • Shot Put: Using small, lightweight balls, the children practiced their throwing skills with the shot put. It was impressive to see how far they could launch them!
  • Parachute Games: This classic favourite brought everyone together for some cooperative fun. Whether they were creating waves or trying to keep a ball bouncing on top, the parachute was a big hit.

At the conclusion of the day’s activities, the students gathered together for a well-deserved ice block to cool down and celebrate their hard work and participation. We are especially thankful for the beautiful weather God blessed us with, allowing the event to run smoothly. It was truly a reminder of the many blessings we receive and the opportunity to come together and celebrate as a school community.

In reflecting on the day we are reminded of Colossians 3:23, which says: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." This verse perfectly reflects the attitude of our students, who approached each activity with dedication, enthusiasm, and joy. Their efforts, reflected a true commitment to giving their best.

Sydney Rocks Excursion

At the end of Term 3, Year 4 students travelled to Sydney to meet with rangers from Ranger Jamie Tours who walked them around The Rocks area of Sydney dressed in convict tunics. The Rocks area was significant in the study of the first European settlement of Australia. Students were shown the location of the first bank and the first hospital. They stood in the first kitchen and toilet area and saw how cramped living spaces were back in the day. They learnt about a group called 'the push gang' whose pastime was to push unwary people over and rob them of valuable items. Students walked up to Observatory Hill for lunch, a drawing activity and a running game which tested their knowledge of life in 18th century England, the journey of the First Fleet ships to the shores of New South Wales and the establishment of the colony under the guidance of Captain Arthur Phillip.

HSIE Rocks

During Term 3 we saw many exciting HSIE activities and opportunities. Amongst these were Year 10 Geography conducting a field trip to Currarong, Stage 5 History enjoying a WW1 presentation, and Business Studies students successfully running their own ice cream stands.

We also celebrated History Week with a range of fun and educational activities including a historical dress up day for all of high school. Thank you to Mr Joliffe and Mr Asher for being our special guest judges, and also to Evy M for helping take photos. Congratulations to all of the amazing prize winners and well done to all those who enthusiastically participated. You all rock!

Take note! Coming up in Term 4 we have a Year 10 incursion on the Vietnam War on 28 October plus all of Year 8 have their extravaganza Medieval Day on 30 October which includes an exciting weaponary presentation. Year 8 students hopefully all have their Medieval costumes planned. Students will also be asked to bring something to contribute to our Medieval banquet.

Year 7 Technology problem solve

We are about to start an Engineering unit in Year 7 Technology, where we see how big structures are designed and built.

This week, one of the classes was challenged to build a card tower. It was helpful to see what things produced the best results - not just patience and teamwork, but research and instructions.

Groups tried various options before suggestions were given and different techniques we attempted to try and build the tallest card tower.
