P&F News
We held our last meeting for the year last Wednesday. I’m happy to say that we achieved quite a lot, namely in two big areas.
Kingfisher Fair
- We are in the process of a complete overhaul of this event. Gone are the days when parents donated goods for stalls and the need for Year Group Representatives to be responsible for running the stall. Many of the traditional stalls will still be there along with some new amusements managed centrally by the P&F. Both students and families will have the opportunity to help out through volunteering on a stall or ride for a short period of time, but that will be all we ask for. It will enable people to be involved with the fair but take away some of the burden and responsibility associated with it.
- We are working with the Executive to make this day a true showcase of our school. As such, part of the focus of the fair will be a true Open Day to the public to display what makes our school unique. As such, the Kingfisher Fair will become an annual event on the Albany calendar.
- This is a work in progress, but it's looking to be a great event on our school calendar. We will release more details over the coming months.
P&F Structure and Strategy
- We are working with the Executive to change our outlook and structure to reflect the changing environment. We are looking to remove some of the formalities of a typical P&F structure to drive involvement whilst reducing the burden and responsibility of some previous roles. Families will have the opportunity to be involved in areas that interest them. For instance, someone with event management experience could join as the Kingfisher Coordinator rather than having to be a year group representative or be on the traditional P&F Management Committee. It allows us to find “champions” of particular causes as opportunities arise. I invite anyone who would like to be part of next year’s P&F to contact me directly at jason.pages@iinet.net.au
In other big news this week, we have sponsored the 2025 Country Week team with $10,000 to assist families in reducing the significant cost of attending this important event. We hope they do well and enjoy their attendance.
Last week’s meeting also saw us farewell Carolyn Cunningham as Boarding Representative, a position she held for several years. We sincerely thank Carolyn for her dedication to not only the P&F but also the boarding community.
We invite anyone from the boarding community to contact me at the email address above if you’d like to be the Boarding Representative for 2025.
