Seymour College Writing Competition

A huge congratulations to everyone who entered into our writing competition! We were blown away by the incredible short stories submitted, and choosing a winner was not an easy task. Each story was full of originality, creativity, and spirit, which is exactly why we held this competition in the first place. Our intention was to give our growing writers in the school a chance to showcase their ability and create something they can be proud of. If you submitted a story, you should be proud of yourself.

A special shoutout to Blake Kirley and Varli Osterfield, whose characters were so vivid and captivating that they drew us in right from the beginning. Blake’s descriptions of both the setting and characters were great and really drew me in, as the reader. Varli brought her passion to life through an eerie and unique setting that left me intrigued, eager to uncover what was to come. You both clearly have incredible talent, and I encourage you to keep writing. Well done!

However, we can only have two winners, and those are Kristina Lor and Illaria Faulknor. Your stories were incredibly well-crafted and truly something special. Kristina’s characters truly came to life on the page, keeping me engaged and leaving me wanting more. Illaria’s done an exceptional job in portraying the fantastical elements in her story, making the characters and setting feel both vibrant and real. You should be incredibly proud of what you’ve accomplished.

Please join me in congratulating Kristina and Illaria, and once again, a thank you to everyone who submitted. Keep writing—you all have something amazing to share!

Benalla Clay Target Shoot

On Monday 14th October five students travelled to Benalla to participate in the 40th anniversary of the annual Benalla Field and Game Clay Target Shooting Championship. The students were required to shoot a total of 30 rounds from 10 stands utilising different methods depending on how the clay targets are thrown.

The shooting was challenging but also a lot of fun for the competitors with our new shooters, Tabitha, Dylan and Sam achieving some great scores. Lachie and Tom were just off the pace for the win achieving 25 and 23 out of the 30!

Overall, it was a great day and a very enjoyable event for our students. Any secondary student who is interested in getting involved with our shooting team, please see Mr Thompson or Ms McClaren for more info!

Hume Secondary Athletics

On Thursday 10th October a small group of Secondary students proceeded to the third level of Athletics in the Hume region. It was a great day with perfect conditions for the athlete. Seymour walked away with some great results, with most students achieving a place in the top three! Congratulations to Jacinta, Jordan, Indiana and Harrison who will progress the State Athletics on the 21st October.
