Writing
CURRICULUM FOCUS
This week in Writing, we are learning to write a persuasive text.
VOCABULARY
Persuasive Text: expresses an opinion and tries to convince others to join that opinion by giving reasons to do so.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
Ask your child to tell you their favourite icecream flavour and they have to write a persuasive text to convince the family to choose the same flavour.
Have your child draw a picture of their favourite icecream flavour each on a piece of paper, a scrap book or using technology.
Ask your child to say more than one reasons to support their opinion. You may like to use the given sentences to support the oral language.
I like … because… (x3 reasons)
I think ___ is better than ___ because ___
In my opinion ___ is the best _____ because_____
Then they can write their persuasive text.
Things to remember when writing that good writers do:
-use finger spaces in between words
-use a full stop at the end of each sentence
-use a capital letter at the beginning of each sentence
-record all of the sounds they can hear in each word they write
Example,
Chocolate chip ice cream is the best ice cream!
I think chocolate chip ice cream is better than vanilla ice cream because it tastes just like chocolate. It even smells like chocolate and everyone in our family likes chocolate.
It is very yummy with the little pieces of chocolate chips.
I think everyone should eat chocolate chip ice cream only.
