Grade 5 News

5T and 5B have settled back into learning with a positive mindset, ready for a fantastic year in 2025. We have already accomplished so much and made a strong start with our novel, War Horse. Students have been eager to read each day and are excited to discover what happens to Joey throughout the story.

Writing

In preperation for NAPLAN, students have been focussing on upgradibg their adjectives and writing narratives. 

Buddies 

Our Year 5s were over the moon when they met their wonderful Prep buddies. They have been

 spending quality time together, helping our little Preps transition smoothly into school.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN is approaching, and students will be assessed over the course of a week in literacy and mathematics. To support their preparation, we are incorporating NAPLAN-style questions into our math lessons. Additionally, students are currently practicing narrative writing, with persuasive writing practice set to begin in the coming weeks

Inform and Empower

We are very fortunate to be completing a thrive online wellbeing course with the grade 5 and 6 students which focuses on online rights and responsibilities and how the law can help keep us safe. We will also explore how positive online experiences can support our digital wellbeing.

Topic

The Grade 5 and 6 students are exploring the unit "Staying Alive," focusing on the adaptations of animals and humans. They are examining both structural and behavioural adaptations to understand how living things survive and thrive in their environments.

Grade 6 News

Our school leaders were thrilled to receive their leadership positions at our recent school Mass. They have already demonstrated the qualities that make them outstanding leaders for 2025.

 

 

Literacy

They have kicked off the year with their novel study on Rivet Boy by Barbara Henderson, which follows a young boy named John who takes on a dangerous job to support his family after his father's death.

Inspired by the novel, students have been exploring language features such as emotive language, high-modality words, and rhetorical questions, learning how to incorporate them effectively into their sentences to enhance their persuasive writing.
