The Trades students have been hard at work this week, demonstrating their dedication, teamwork and growing expertise across a variety of projects. It’s fantastic to see the progress being made, with students developing valuable hands-on skills that will serve them well in their future careers.

Building and Construction

Our Year 10 and new Year 11 students have been honing their concreting skills by crafting sturdy concrete garden seats. This project introduces them to essential construction techniques, including formwork setup, reinforcement placement and finishing methods. Their attention to detail and enthusiasm are evident in the work they are producing.

Year 12 students undertaking the Certificate II in Construction Pathways have been getting hands-on experience in bricklaying. Under guidance, they are learning the intricacies of mortar mixing, laying bricks to a level line and maintaining uniform joints. Beau Smith and Alessio Cavallaro have been particularly focused, putting in a great effort to refine their skills while embracing the challenges of this trade.

Metals

Mr Briggs' Year 10 Metals students have been busy fabricating toolboxes. Their attention to accuracy and quality craftsmanship is evident in the neat and well-constructed toolboxes taking shape in the workshop. This project is an excellent foundation for developing essential metal fabrication skills that will be valuable in many industries.

Automotive

Thursday’s Year 10 Automotive class had an engaging session with Mr Campbell, diving into the world of automotive electrical systems. Students explored automotive fuses, circuit protection and basic fault-finding techniques, gaining a deeper understanding of how modern vehicle electrical systems operate. Practical demonstrations and hands-on activities ensured they hopefully left with newfound confidence in troubleshooting electrical issues.

Furnishings

Over in the Furnishings workshop, Year 12’s are showcasing precision and patience while crafting a Jarrah bar stool. The class is learning woodworking skills, including machining, measuring and joinery techniques, all crucial for high-quality furniture making. Successful progress highlights the importance of accuracy and attention to detail in fine woodworking.

As we wrap up another productive week, we’d like to again acknowledge the effort and enthusiasm of all our Trades students. Keep up the great work and enjoy a safe and relaxing long weekend.
