Assistant Principal

Welcome back to everyone for 2025! We have been delighted to see how everyone has returned to school with lots of enthusiasm and excitement ready for a big year of learning ahead.

The first few weeks of the new year can be challenging as children settle into new classroom spaces, make new friendships and learn the expectations of a new year level. It is important to maintain lots of positive talk at home about the year ahead and if any issues begin to arise get in touch with your child’s classroom teacher or a member of our wellbeing team as soon as you can.

Wellbeing supports 2025

Our wellbeing team consists of me as Assistant Principal, Bradley Stringer who is responsible for Disability Inclusion and Wellbeing and Kara Bogicevic who is responsible for Mental Health and Wellbeing 2 1/2 days a week. This includes her work with Leo our wellbeing dog.

This year we are delighted to be adding to our wellbeing dog team, Hana. She belongs to Mr Cox and is still in training, but will begin working in some of our junior classrooms.

We also have Melissa Godeassi who is with us for 6 weeks per term on Mondays and Tuesdays. She works with individual students by referral for 15-minute sessions and can support a range of issues including the building of social skills and resilience, parental separation or grief, anxiety including school refusal etc.

Expected Behaviours

Our 3 expected behaviours at Kingswood are to be respectful, be resilient and be empathetic. The children are doing lots of work in their classrooms exploring what these bahaviours look like, feel like and sound like in lots of different settings at our school including the learning spaces, the playground, the toilets, online and out in our community.

Yard Duty and Supervision

A couple of times a year we send out a reminder about the supervision times before and after school and ask that if you are unable to drop off or pick your child up during these times that you enrol them into Team Kids our out of school hours service provider.

Supervision before school begins at 8.45am. No child should be dropped off at school and left unsupervised prior to this time.

Supervision after school ends at 3.35pm. No child should be left unsupervised in the yard after this time.

Children who are at school without an adult with them will be brought to the main office area and parents may be contacted.

Child Safe Standards

All staff are currently working through their child safety induction to ensure that we are meeting our responsibilities as a child safe organisation. This is an annual induction which reminds staff of their responsibilities in helping the school to meet Child Safety standards. Copies of all our child safety policies are available on our school website and many are updated annually by our Student Learning and Wellbeing (SLAW) subcommittee of school council.
