Sustainability Update
It is wonderful to be back at Fairfield PS and I'm excited about the year ahead.
Fairfield PS has officially earned its 2-Star status as a ResourceSmart School (RSS). This is just the beginning, and we are proud of the work that’s already underway!
The Environmental Sustainability Working Group (ESWG), made up of our dedicated parent volunteers, has hit the ground running. The first project of the year was a mini working bee on Sunday to rejuvenate our veggie garden beds. We turned the soil, added compost, and spread pea straw—ensuring our garden is ready for planting in the coming season. Thank you Katherine and Andrew for spending your Sunday morning working in the rain!
The student Eco Club has been busy as well. There was a great turnout at the first meeting, where students checked on our worm farm and created posters for our term one recycling event – stay tuned. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and we look forward to seeing their ideas in action this year.
If you’re passionate about sustainability and want to get involved, the ESWG is always looking for new members. This year, we’ll be focusing on creating and maintaining a frog bog to encourage local biodiversity. It’s a great hands-on project, and we’d love for you to be part of it. If you’re interested or if you have other ideas, please email me for more details.
