Student Voice : Springvale Campus
It has been a fantastic start to the year. One thing that has made us very happy is seeing the number of students who are wearing hats outside!
There has been a lot of learning and fun activities happening in all learning centres. The FLC are settling in very well and are having fun at school. The JLC recently had their Team Building incursion, where they had the chance to work collaboratively on a range of projects. The MLC will be going to the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens next week, and the SLC students have recently gone on an excursion to the Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association!
We also had our 'Get To Know You' Parent Teacher Interviews this week. This was a great opportunity for our teachers to get to know our families, sign very important forms and for parents to find out more about their child's learning. We are sure that all the parents attended to make sure their children are set up to have a brilliant school year.
This week, the SLC students visited the Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association. It was an amazing opportunity for us to learn more about First Nations' cultures, perspectives and histories. Not only did we learn about Indigenous plants and their medicinal uses, we also participated in a smoking ceremony, as well as a cultural dance! We would like to give a huge thank you to Uncle John, Auntie Trish and Auntie Angela for giving us the opportunity to visit their place, and for teaching us all about it! We cannot wait to apply the knowledge we have gained when creating our class Acknowledgement of Country!
In Reading, the SLC students have been learning how to use information from a text to explain both literal and implied meaning. They have been using text clues and their prior knowledge to draw conclusions and they are focusing on providing evidence to support their thinking. The SLC students have also been preparing for NAPLAN by unpacking NAPLAN questions every day! Everyone is working very hard so they can achieve their personal best, and we know their results will be amazing!
In Mathematics, the SLC students have been using number expanders to show how they can model, recognise, and record numbers. The teachers are really proud of the progress they have been making in their lessons, including students striving to achieve their personal best during our fluency. The SLC students have also been enjoying the extra NAPLAN problem-solving questions and the chance to share the strategies they use.
In Writing, the SLC students have been working hard on their leadership applications for the past two weeks! They had the chance to apply for roles like Art Leader, LOTE Leader, Environmental Leader, SRC Leader, and more. Their effort won’t go unnoticed because we’ll be announcing the successful applicants at our special leadership assembly on Friday. We are really excited to see who our second group of leaders will be, and we are sure that whoever they are, they will be awesome role models for younger students and their peers!
