General News & Reminders

Bread Bags and Bottle Caps
Thanks all for dropping of your lids, bread bags and tags over the last few years.
Unfortunately, Wonderbags and Lids have either ceased their services or now require us to ship the lids across the country which is not feasible. If you would like more information, please see the website here https://www.lids4kids.org.au/
Therefore, HPS is no longer collecting:
- Bread bags
- Bottle caps and lids
We are still collecting:
- Plastic bread tags
With thanks
Gemma Lindsay-Knape
Nut Aware
HPS is a Nut Aware School
An allergic reaction or anaphylaxis can occur through ingestion of nut products, cross contamination, breathing nut dust in the air and touching nuts products or surfaces that have been exposed to nuts.
A school that identifies itself as Nut Aware, usually asks for the parents of every child, whether they are allergic to nuts or not, to consider peanut and tree nut alternatives when planning individually packed lunches.
Since this condition can be life threatening, we are asking all members of the school community for their help in minimising the risk to these children by:
- Avoiding giving children nuts or nut products in their packed lunches.
- Avoiding giving nuts or nut products or snacks / bars containing nuts for recess snacks
- Avoiding supplying the school with cakes or food items containing nuts (or traces of nuts) for birthday celebrations.
- Heidelberg Primary school does not allow students to share food.
Foods that are labelled “may have been produced in a factory handling nuts and cannot be guaranteed to be nut free”, will be allowed at school.
We thank you in advance for your co operation and support regarding this matter.

Recorder News
HPS's recorder program is off to a happy start for 2025 with students returning to instrumental lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. Some students had had a complete break from recorder playing and came back fresh (if a little rusty, at first) while others had continued practicing over the summer, and impressed with their playing, right from bar 1.
Our prospective recorder student leaders - the HPS Recorder Ensembles Performance Co-Captain and Vice-Captain candidates - gave a brief speech at the rehearsal of each ensemble, followed by members' voting, and the results have now been verified...AND our Vice-Captain is...Skylar, and our Co-Captains are Clydie and Essie!
Recorder for BEGINNING Students - Applications Now Closed
Thank you to those Grades 1, 2 and 3 families who expressed interest in beginner recorder lessons. The remaining available places were filled quickly. Emails have been sent to each family with further details.
Happy music making!
