Year 9 My Career Insights

belOur Year 9 students have the opportunity to create a careers profile using an online career discovery tool supported by the Department of Education and Training. The service is designed to help students make informed decisions about subject selection, vocational education and training, senior secondary school certificates, further study and career choices. Part 1 of this program involves students completing an online assessment that will take approximately 2 hours. This is made up of 8 timed aptitude modules and 2 multiple choice questionnaires (interest and personality). Our students will be completing Part 1 on Tuesday 4th March. While there is no pass or fail for this assessment students are encouraged to try their best so that their results are true and accurate.
On the day your child must have a charged laptop that can access the college internet. If they are experiencing any issues connecting to the college internet, they must visit the IT office prior to this day to have any concerns attended to. All students will need to know their @schools email address and they will be asked to create a memorable password to access their online account. Following the assessment, students will have access to a personalised report outlining identified strengths, interests and personality traits and related career paths and study options.
The second component of this program is a 20-minute counselling session with an external careers practitioner to unpack their profiles and discuss potential areas of study and work. The careers counselling sessions are scheduled to take place between Monday 4 August and Friday 8 August. Parents are invited to attend their child’s interview. More information about this process will be communicated closer to the date. There are 3 options for participation in this program:
Options 1 - Opt In – Consent via the Compass event will allow your child to complete the Morrisby Career Profiling and then attend a 1:1 interview with a career advisor.
Option 2 - No Response - If we do not receive the consent via the Compass event your child will complete a modified version of the Morrisby Profile assessment (personality and interests only) and will have a 1:1 interview with a career advisor based on these results.
Option 3 - Opt Out - your child will not have free access to the Morrisby resources including the 1:1 interview with a career advisor. If access is requested in future, it will be at full program cost.
A copy of the Department of Education’s form is below for you to read about these options in more detail. A presentation about how the program will run and what students can expect is also attached. This includes how they can attempt practice questions so that they may feel more confident on the day.
Please note, consent for this program is to be provided by a parents/guardian via the ‘Year 9 My Career Insights’ Compass event no later than Thursday 27 February. Hard copy consent forms can also be found in the attachments below.
