PBL Lessons
A huge shout-out to our 2025 school leaders for their fantastic work in presenting the PBL Lesson of the Week at assembly! Not only are they delivering these important messages, but they are also actively involved in the planning process, ensuring our assemblies are both engaging and entertaining. Their leadership, creativity, and dedication are making a real impact on our school community!
Respectful Relationships Education
Parents play a key role in teaching children respect. Here’s how you can help:
Model Respect – Show kindness and patience in daily interactions. Encourage Empathy – Ask, “How would you feel?” to build understanding.
Teach Positive Communication – Use polite words and express feelings calmly.
The Importance of Attendance
Regular school attendance helps children build learning habits, stay connected with friends, and achieve their best. Missing school can mean missing important lessons!
Well done to the 258 students with over 95% attendance! Keep up the great work!
Student Council
The Goondiwindi State School Student Council has kicked off the year with great enthusiasm when class captains gathered to discuss fundraising, school events, and community engagement.
Fundraising & Community Support
The Student Council is proud to continue its support for The Smith Family Charity, donating approximately $700 annually. Additionally, students voted last year to support Kaloma and discussions are underway on how best to contribute.

Encouraging a Love for Reading
Reading is a key focus for our school and therefore our Student Council. Each class was asked to suggest three high-interest books to share with parents. Here they are:
Charlotte's Web, Gangsta Granny, Animal Books by Holly Webb, Babysitters Club, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Wonky Donkey, Hot Dog Series, Weirdo, Don't Open this Book, Harry Potter Series, Roald Dahl Series, Bad Guys, Pig the Pug, Bluey- Cricket, Owl Babies.
Fun at School
The Student Council also worked on a school playlist and asked for suggestions of songs from each class. Each class also submitted a Joke of the Week to be read at assembly.
Community Connections
We were pleased to welcome Sergeant Jason Watt, who introduced himself to the Student Council and encouraged students to use this platform to connect with community organisations like PCYC.
The next Student Council Meeting will take place on March 20, 2025 (Week 8, Term 1) during play break.
House Competition
The purpose of the House System is to encourage teamwork, school spirit, and dedication, while also recognising students for their achievements beyond the classroom. House Events are fun competitions where students represent their House and work together to earn points. These events help students build friendships, show leadership, and take pride in their school community. By participating in these events, students not only contribute to their House’s success but also develop important values like teamwork, respect, and perseverance.
How Do House Competitions Work?
Students earn House Points in different ways, including:
Academic Growth – Improving in schoolwork and showing great effort.
Attendance – Coming to school regularly and on time.
Participation in House Events – Getting involved in activities such as the Swimming Carnival, Bin It to Win It, Checkers Competiton and the Photography Competition.
At the end of the year, all the points are added up, there are two cups; the Sporting House Cup and the House Cup. The House Cup is an award that celebrates students' participation, school spirit, teamwork, and dedication.
We encourage all students to take part in House Competitions and show their House pride throughout the year! Let’s make 2025 a fantastic year for all our Houses.
Photography House Competition: Let Your Creativity Shine! 📸✨
The Photography competition "clicked off" the house events for 2025. Each entry receives a point for their house.
Bin it, to Win it
During Week 6, in celebration of Clean Up Australia Day, each House will have a bin placed around the school. The challenge is simple: collect as much rubbish as possible and place it in your House’s bin. The House that gathers the most rubbish by the end of the week will win valuable points towards the House Cup.
Not only is this a fun way to boost House spirit, but it also teaches students the importance of respecting our school and environment. By working together, we can all help keep our school clean, green, and beautiful!
Encourage your child to take part and show pride in their House and school. Let’s make a difference together—Bin It to Win It!
