Over the last two weeks our school leadership team has completed walkthroughs of all our classroom spaces observing the routines and expectations that our teachers have developed with their students this term. It was amazing to see students lining up outside of classrooms before school and after breaks in such a calm and orderly manner, the way that children have learnt their morning routines with minimal verbal or visual prompts from teachers and how quickly they are able to engage in their learning.
The opening of the gym for basketball for students in years two to six at lunchtimes has been a huge hit and we have been very impressed with the respect that students have shown towards each other when sharing the space and the inclusiveness of the play that they are engaging in.
Our Prep and Year1 students have been demonstrating our expected behaviours of respect, resilience and empathy in the playground and the Year 1 students have enjoyed having the Year 6 PLAY Leaders on Wednesday lunchtimes organise fun games and activities for them.
Our Year 5 students are eagerly awaiting the news of whether they are going to be the 2025 PLAY Leaders, they will be finding out next week and receiving their certificates at our whole school assembly on Monday 3rd March.
PLAY stands for Positivity, Leadership, Activated Youth and is a great opportunity for our aspiring leaders in Year 5 and students who enjoy working with younger children to lead them in organised play activities. Initially they are supported by additional teachers in the yard as they learn more about the role and their responsibilities and by the end of the year, they run the activities independently.
In the next few weeks, our school captains and some of our other year 6 students will be fostering our connections to the wider community by visiting our local kindergartens at Jacks Avenue, Marcus Road and Bespoke to read picture story books, share some books from our library and share some of what primary school life is like.
Harmony Week will be celebrated at Kingswood from Monday 17th to Friday 21st of March. This is a recognition and appreciation of the cultural diversity that makes up our Kingswood community and Australia.
Over the course of the week students will participate in a range of classroom activities that promote inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging.
On Friday the 21st of March we invite all students to either wear cultural dress or the colour orange, which has been the official colour of Harmony Week since it began in 1999. On this day we will have a special Harmony Day assembly so keep an eye out for further information. We will also bring our Prep to Year 2 students together in the junior play area. Our Year 3 to 6 students will join each other on the oval for the opportunity to share their eating time, picnic style!
Keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks and for photos on Instagram and Facebook.
