From the Head of Sport
Head of Sport Report
Over the past 18 months, we have implemented new systems to improve the organization and management of our events. As part of these improvements, we kindly ask that any student selected for a BMGS representative team communicates their intentions by completing the excursion form sent out for each event.
The excursion form is essential for registering both those attending and those not attending. This process allows us to better plan and organize each event, ensuring a smooth experience for everyone involved.
Doing this in a timely manner can help:
- Accurate Planning: We need to know how many students, parents, and staff will attend to plan appropriately for seating on buses and other resources. This ensures that extra buses are not booked hence reducing costs.
- Safety and Security: Knowing the number of attendees helps maintain safety protocols including adequate supervision, and emergency planning.
- Budget Management: RSVP’ing allows organizers to allocate funds wisely, especially with regards to transport and reduces over or underestimating.
- Shows Commitment: When students and families RSVP, it shows a commitment to the school, which helps smooth organisation.
- Helps with Event Flow: For events such as representative carnivals, knowing the specific attendees helps ensure that any events that become vacant due to an athlete not attending can be filled and nominated in a timely manner.
RSVP’ing shows respect for the effort that goes into planning school events and contributes to a positive and well-organized experience for everyone involved. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to our BMGS teams.
Congratulations
Netball
Congratulations to Olivia Harris who recently competed at the Australian Netball Championships in Canberra where her team took the gold medal. Well done again Olivia you continue to go from strength to strength.
Netball Umpiring
Rose Perisce-Burrell has been busy improving her umpiring skills over the past 12 months and has also become involved in the school pathway for umpiring. This week Rose was invited to umpire the final day of the NGS Super NSW Schools Cup at Olympic Park. To be selected to umpire at this level is outstanding. Well done Rose.
Cross Country
Congratulations to Keeden Harrison and Alton Freeman who competed in the 2024 Australian Athletics Cross-Country Championships held in Launceston on the 31st July 2024. Both Keeden (5th) and Alton (12th) performed extremely well in the horrendous weather that was buffeting Tasmania that week. Keeden was also part of the NSW U18 Mixed Relay Team that won a Silver Medal on the Sunday.

Summer Sport Trials
As teams are being finalised for summer sport, please ensure that you check the sports noticeboard outside my office for final teams. All players, once selected need to go to the uniform shop and confirm if you have a uniform that fits for the upcoming season. As well as this, you need to let Mrs McLeod know what your singlet number is to ensure that there are no double ups in teams.
Some students who chose sports for summer have not as yet attended a trial. Thank you to all those parents and players who had clashes for emailing me to advise of issues. Last trials for basketball will be held during Week 10.

A number of students have applied to be part of the tennis program. There are only 12 positions available for this sport. Names will be listed on the Sports Noticeboard next week.
