Current and Upcoming Learning
Christian Studies: Students have begun their unit on, ‘Christians have a responsibility in and for the world’. This unit is about how we have the responsibility to be stewards (caretakers) of the world that God has created. This connects beautifully with our inquiry.
Unit Of Inquiry: Students are in their, ‘How we Express Ourselves’ unit. Year 5s have chosen an issue in the world and are researching about it with a focus on the concepts of Form, Function, Perspective and Responsibility. It will be great to see them researching the different perspectives people have about the issue and the responsibility they and others have to improve it. This week they will start collating their information in a mind mapping app called Popplet. Next week they will create a piece of art that expresses their issue.
Exhibition: The Year 6s have been extremely busy this week. Students have submitted their next section of work on ‘Function: How does it work?’ We are aiming to have feedback to students as soon as possible so this can feed forward into where they are going. They are now looking at perspectives on different aspects of their inquiry related to a media article. This has required them to look carefully at their issue by viewing it from different viewpoints. This will be completed next week with a due date being added to Toddle. From here, we will be looking at how people take action to address and deal with their issue.
Literacy: At the start of next term, Year 5 students will start to write application letters for positions of leadership and responsibility for 2025. Year 6 students are using Readers’ and Writers’ workshop as a time to read and write about their exhibition issue.
Mathematics: We have started our unit on angles. We have reviewed the names of different angles and their characteristics and are moving into predicting and measuring angles with a protractor.
