Focus on Learning

Stage Two

Stage 2 has been working hard to get back into routine after a monstrous effort in the play. Many of the students in our class played main roles and have spent countless hours rehearsing throughout this term. Those who didn't have speaking parts did a tremendous job with our class dance and the whole school dance. We hope that the remainder of this term can be very settled as I think we all need some routine back in our lives!

Maths

In Maths our students have been investigating fractions, they have been discovering improper and mixed fractions on top of regular proper fractions. This has been an exciting unit, with a variety of games and activities to ignite our understanding and challenge us all. Some of our favourites have been fractions bingo, turning dominos into mixed fractions and using online interaction games to solidify our understanding.

Writing

We have recently started on a new writing unit that focuses on character development in narrative writing. The students have been reading Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda and have enjoyed the beginning of Rowan's Journey so far. This week our focus has been on using verbs to develop character voice. Although this has been a challenge for some, I think we have all enjoyed playing around with creating characters.

Geography

We have been having lots of fun planning our journey around Australia the last few weeks in Geography. Our class has been tasked with planning a 3 month camping holiday around Australia. Students have to choose 10-15 locations, each location cannot be further than 400 km from the last and we have been exploring what attractions are at each location.
