Children’s Week is a national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.

This year, Children’s Week will run from Saturday 19 October to Sunday 27 October, with thousands of Victorian children and families expected to take part.

The theme for the week is ‘Children have the right to a clean and safe environment’, based on Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Lots of free activities available for families to access.

This term BBPS will be focusing on Empathy as our key principle of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.

Our mantra for the term is,

Feelings are okay, make someone else’s day.

Empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of others

Go to The Resilience Project to read the-benefits-and-importance-of-practicing-empathy

Students will be completing tasks related to this theme in their Resilience Journals, through class-based circle times, and will have the opportunity to engage in a range of acts of kindness, friendship lunches and lunch clubs all focussed on building an understanding of the emotions of others and how we can be kind friends.

Each newsletter, a different cohort will be sharing some of the ways they are practicing empathy this term.

Throughout the term we’ll be sharing a weekly Home Challenge, an opportunity for you to be involved and share in the learning.

This week’s Home Challenge: Complete a GEM chat focussed on empathy – try these on the way home, at the dinner table, before bed.
