Physical Education
What do you like most about PE?
Billy (Grade 1) "I like to play soccer and last week I did Judo"
Mackenzie (Grade 2) "My Favourite thing in sport is gymnastics"
Vivi F (Grade 4) "I like that different people come into our school and teach us different things. Recently we have had Judo lessons with Micki and it was really fun."
Harry (Grade 3) "I love PE because it is fun and we get to learn different sports. Recently we learnt how to play Lacrosse and Judo. I also like the athletics carnival, cross country running and playing soccer and footy."
Lacrosse
Lacrosse has featured in the inter-school sports program in the past but BBPS has not participated in this sport for a few years, but that may be about the change! We were lucky enough to have a Lacrosse coach from MCC Lacross and Lacrosse Victoria give students a taste of lacrosse (the weather was also stunning).
Judo
Sensei Miki Mayer from Judokan Judo Club has delivered workshops to teach students some safe and fun judo skills including how to roll and fall safely.
PMP
Our Junior students participate in activities designed to improve their gross motor skills from an early age. These Perceptual Motor Programactivities also help to build hand-eye/foot/eye coordination and balance. Students rotate through a variety of stations with different equipment including bats, balls, skipping ropes and floor mats.
Visual Arts
What do you love about Visual Arts?
Maxine (Grade 1) "I love to do drawing in art. My favourite thing to draw is a girl"
Amy (Grade 2) "I liked learning how to make pinch pots and doing water colouring"
Sophie (Grade 4) "I love it when Ms Hellier teaches us new ways to create art. Recently we used a paper plate and string and wove the string through the plate to make a pattern!"
Performing Arts
What is fun about performing arts?
Mia (Grade 2)
"I like music because I like playing the instruments"
Layla (Grade 1) "I like learning the different notes and I like playing instruments"
Hallie (Grade 4) "In performing arts I like playing the instruments and dancing. I am looking forward to doing the dance off and talent show."
Our performing arts program teaches drama and music related skills to students across the school. From playing instruments and singing, to role playing games and dancing, our students are immersed in the performing arts to develop an appreciation for the breadth of music, dance, and acting that will be available to them as adults as both participants and audience members. Technology is also used in later years to explore digital tools to create music and video, and for research.
Japanese
What is your favourite thing about Japanese?
Ned (Grade 1) "My favourite thing in Japanese is watching funny videos and learning about family"
Charlotte (Grade 2) "I like Mr Willmott, playing games, and learning about my family"
Daniel (Grade 3) "The best part is that if everyone works well we get to play a Japanese game at the end and watch funny videos of Godzilla. At the moment we are working on a family tree using Japanese words to describe our family."
Students in Japanese have been learning about Radio Taiso, a tradition in Japan that incorporates exercise with music (thing aerobics, but with less intensity) The below photos include images of our grade 2 students performing these exercises as a warm up before the lesson. This term students are also completing projects using the Japanese words for family members.
Waste Warriors
Jacob (Grade 5) "Waste Warriors is about where we as a group think about things that are environmentally good for our school such as cleaning up the yard. When our groups went out last erm one of the groups collected more than 400 pieces of rubbish."
Lacey (Grade 5) "At the start of the year we worked on an action plan that we needed to make happen. Our project was to collect cans and bottles for the recycling deposit to raise money for Beach Patrol. Beach Patrol takes kids to the beach and we clean up. They also do local parks. We put tubs in each classroom to collect the cans and bottles."
Leadership
As our grade 6 students prepare for high school they are now ready to pass on their wisdom to our next generation of leaders from grade 5. The photos below show the genuine enthusiasm of our grade 5 student to learn more about the leadership roles they will be performing next year. Our Grade 6 students were excellent role-models in this knowledge sharing activity.
Milla "This year I was one of the Media Captains. Yesterday the grade 5 students visited us to ask questions about leadership. Some of the questions were about what we had to do for our roles. I explained that every three weeks we have a radio show and in between those three weeks we have prepare for the show by writing a script."
Henry "Some of the things I told the grade 5 students were that there is a lot to prepare for assemblies. Something I learnt this year was not to leave things too late because that can be stressful. My favourite part of being a leader was setting up the new iPads. It was a lot of work but once it was done I felt a sense of achievement."
Other Learning around the school
Prep and Grade 1
Prep Mindfulness
After an exciting and eventful lunch time our prep students like to relax with some midfulness in the classroom. As you can see, it starts with finding a space on the floor and students are then guided through a session which draws students attention to their breathing and how their body feels. This helps students to regulate their bodies and emotions in preparation for the final learning session of the day.

Ordinal Numbers
Learning about ordinal numbers is fun! Teachers in grade 1 organised a game outside to sort groups of students in order. You can see how much fun it looks in the pics below!
