Student Activities

Year 10 Canberra Camp
Our Year 10 students recently enjoyed a four-day camp to Canberra, designed to deepen their understanding of Australia’s history, democracy, science and culture, while also building friendships and creating lasting memories. Students undertook an education tour of the national capital, where they took part in a range of engaging programs focused on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democratic system.
Students departed early from Sale by coach and travelled to Canberra, arriving in the afternoon. Their first stop was the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre, where they participated in an interactive program exploring one of Australia’s most important renewable energy and engineering projects. The day concluded with a visit to Mount Ainslie Lookout, where students were able to take in panoramic views of Canberra, before settling into accommodation at IBIS Styles Canberra Eaglehawk.
Across Days 2 and 3, students rotated through a variety of significant national experiences depending on their group. These included the Australian War Memorial, where they took part in the “We Will Remember Them” program reflecting on Australia’s military history and service; Parliament House, where they experienced a guided tour and hospitality session, gaining insight into how Australia’s democracy works; the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD), where they explored the “Our Voices, Our Choices” program focusing on civic participation; the Australian Institute of Sport, where they toured elite sporting facilities and interactive exhibits; and Questacon – National Science and Technology Centre, where hands-on exhibits sparked curiosity and a love of science. Students also enjoyed a fun evening of bowling, as well as the highlight Year 10 Formal held at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra, marking a special milestone in their school journey.
After breakfast on the final day, students began their journey home, travelling by coach back to Sale. The camp provided wonderful opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, while also encouraging independence, teamwork and a strong sense of community.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To support this, funding is provided to schools through the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program. This contribution, of $45, assists families with the cost of the excursion and is paid directly to the school upon completion of the camp.
CCS Debates Against Gippsland Grammar
Congratulations to three of our Year 9 students, Emma Aeschlimann, Sienna Bruce and Veronica Turner, who travelled to Gippsland Grammar on Tuesday 28 April 2026 to participate in a friendly inter-school debate.
The team argued the negative case for the topic:
“It should be compulsory for young people to complete 50 hours of community service per year.”
Our students performed with confidence, clearly presenting their arguments and skilfully rebutting those of the opposing team. While CCS narrowly lost the debate by only a few points, the experience was a valuable one, with our students demonstrating strong reasoning and logical thinking against a more experienced Gippsland Grammar team.
The adjudicator, Eve (a trained Year 12 Gippsland Grammar student), also provided constructive feedback to support the students’ ongoing development in debating.
Several members of our CCS Debating Club attended as observers and benefited from seeing a live debate in action.
This opportunity has strengthened our connection with Gippsland Grammar, and we look forward to hosting them at Catholic College Sale for a future debate.

The Middle of Everywhere Jobs & Careers Fair
Our VCE VM students attended The Middle of Everywhere Jobs & Careers Fair, connecting with local organisations to explore entry-level jobs, apprenticeships, traineeships, study options and career pathways.
A valuable opportunity to ask questions, build confidence, and discover what’s possible in our community!
