Create Belonging

Term 2, beyond the classroom, is providing students with rich opportunities to connect with their school and the broader community. Our Year 10 students have travelled to Canberra for their school camp and Year 10 Formal. They are now beginning to explore work experience options, while our Year 9 cohort engages in meaningful career planning through the Morrisby program.

Our Year 11 students enjoyed a Pathways Camp in Melbourne, where they explored university offerings at several of Victoria’s leading institutions. Students across all year levels will participate in a wide range of sporting and cocurricular activities, and some of our senior students will continue preparing for their Vietnam and East Timor immersion trips later in the year.

It promises to be an enriching term. I sincerely thank our teachers, support staff, and families for the collective support they provide in ensuring students can access and enjoy the many opportunities available within our school community.

Strive for Excellence

Term 2 is a purposeful and significant period in the academic year. Over the coming weeks, students will complete a range of assessments, including SACs, class tasks, end-of-semester tests, exams, and for our Unit 3 and 4 students, the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday, 16 June. The GAT is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning across two sections: Literacy and Numeracy Skills, and General Knowledge and Skills.

VCE parent–teacher interviews and a VCE Parent Information Night will be held over the next two weeks. This is a valuable time to strengthen the partnership between students, families, and the College, working together to support positive outcomes. We strongly encourage all families of Unit 3 and 4 students to schedule interviews and attend the information evening.

Share Success

Our Catholic College Sale Debating Teams were formed this term, with enthusiastic students representing the College and developing their debating skills alongside teams from Gippsland Grammar. Thank you to Ms Julie Cannon for her work with these students in this cocurricular program. We look forward to following their progress throughout the year.

Strong family partnerships remain central to each child’s growth and success. When families engage in learning conversations at home, take an interest in progress, and work collaboratively with teachers, students are best placed to thrive. I encourage you to remain actively involved in your child’s learning journey through the Daily Digest, reporting, and parent–teacher interviews so that, together, we can continue to strengthen this important partnership.

Congratulations to Molly Work, who recently graduated from Federation University and was recognised for her exceptional academic achievement.

Our newly renovated Marian Kitchen hosted its first student-coordinated dinner, led by Pip Gilbert. Pip prepared an Italian feast enjoyed by invited guests and staff. She is to be congratulated for the outstanding quality of food and service delivered by the hospitality team she led on the night.

Where has life taken you since graduating from Catholic College Sale?

Since finishing school, I went straight into a cabinet making apprenticeship and have been working in the trade ever since. It’s been a great pathway for me and I’ve learnt a lot along the way.

What are some of your favourite memories from your time at Catholic College Sale, or what was your favourite school tradition or event?

My favourite memories would definitely be the Marist sports, mainly the football and basketball. They were always good fun and something everyone looked forward to.

What do you enjoy about your current career?

What I enjoy most is working with a good team of young people who enjoy what they do. It makes work a lot better when everyone gets along and takes pride in the job.

What advice would you give to your younger self back in school?

I’d tell myself not to be lazy, stay focused, and always work towards a goal. The effort you put in early definitely pays off later on.

What is one message you would like to share with today’s students and teachers at Catholic College Sale?

Work hard, have a crack at every opportunity, and enjoy what you do.
