Year 7

In Year 7, students have started this term by focusing on personal and cultural strengths, particularly positive relationships. The students are delving into what these relationships look like and how they can contribute to positive relationships. They have been learning about respect and how this may look different depending on the person, their culture, upbringing and beliefs.

Year 8

In Year 8, students have started this term by learning about stress management, resilience and self-regulation. Students began by examining a range of situations to determine whether they considered them stressful. They discussed how a situation or event may be stressful for one person, however, not for a different person.

Students have since been learning about resilience and self-regulation. Students have worked together to determine what resilience looks like, sounds like and feels like to them. Students have been practising the school values of diligence and belonging to demonstrate these skills and see them in others.

Lastly, students have been learning about how stress or dysregulation may look and feel like in the body.

They have been learning about ways to regulate this and calm their nervous systems. All students created a plan to help themselves regulate. Next week, students will get a choice of a regulation activity to learn about and practice in Homegroup.

Year 9

In Year 9, students are building on their understanding of personal and cultural strengths. In this unit, students have learned about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples connection to culture and Country. They are starting to learn about their rich culture and how this can be celebrated by all Australians.

Students have then started looking at different strengths and values, including how others may perceive one strength or value as more important than others. Students have then been looking at ethical dilemmas and the impact of negative self-talk. Students will begin to understand how to use positive self-talk and their strengths to demonstrate excellence and success in school and in the community.

Year 10

Students were visited by the Pat Cronin Foundation to learn about the impacts of violence. Students have built on their understanding from the visit last year to delve deeper into the lifelong ramifications of a single violent event.

In addition, students have begun working with the Careers team to best prepare them for VCE and beyond.
